BDS Bradford protested at Tesco yesterday, urging customers to stop buying products they claim are “funding the genocide.” According to BDS Bradford, “Tesco sells Israeli-sourced dates, avocados, and other products grown on stolen Palestinian land.” If the organization had done its homework, it would know that, for example, Coca-Cola operates a bottling plant in East Jerusalem, where employees are Palestinian, not Israeli. Boycotting Israeli products produced by Palestinians means they will be the first to lose their jobs if companies are forced to scale back. That has nothing to do with helping the Gaza Strip. Only Western activists, dripping with entitlement, could convince themselves they’re “helping” Palestinians by putting Palestinians out of work.
