Be grateful for all of the things you have. Remember that there are people out there with nothing. They would trade places with you in an instant if they could.

The only thing you own on this earth is your soul. All the material? Belongs to God Your thoughts? Can be ruled by outside forces. Your body? God's gift to you. You want to show God how grateful you are for all of your blessings? Sacrifice the only thing that is yours and surrender it to God. Just as He did with His son to show you His unending love for you.

If you parallel this with Tate’s view on being thankful for gifts given to us the answer becomes more nuanced or different. God gave his only begotten Son as a gift for all those who were to believe in Him. Jesus was the lamb of God, the sacrifice, the gift. Tate says if anyone gives you a gift you cherish it and you show gratitude. Jesus is the gift of salvation so we cherish that gift by making use of it. We remind the father of the best and most valuable gift ever. His Son and His Son’s shed blood as our atonement and redeemer. God forgive me in the name of Christ. Do not disparage your own Son’s blood and work on the cross. Tate values the father - son dynamic. So he should accept some of the things here in some way.

Repenting and asking for forgiveness from God is showing you've made a change in what was wrong and are drawing closer to God. It is for HIM also because he wants your love, recognition, servitude and loyalty and when you repent you are showing HIM by action.
