this going to get good, you’re def not wrong! however, seeing this topic recurringly i think it’s more of a semantics argument which disputes what the definition of producer v beat-makers implies and the constant moving of the goal post to what the definition of the words imply

Yeah that’s it. Without the beat. Who needs a producer? What ya gonna produce? A metronome?

It's a tired argument.. I consider myself a beat maker when I make beats that I don't want artists to get on because I just like experimenting with sounds. But if an artist wants me to rearrange somethings on my beats then I somewhat consider myself a producer. It's all creation and that's all that truly matters imo

great argument. without the beat there's no song. I think there should be titles for every role in the song making process so credit is properly given for everyone's contribution. You wouldn't say the camera guy made the movie but with them there would be no movie.

Bro, beatmakers aren’t even real. We’re literally a figment of the music industries imagination… good points tho. 🫡

What about when a producer gives the beatmaker ideas, instructions or guidelines on how they want the beat to sound? Should the beatmaker / programmer still receive co-producer credits or no? I think they should since they are still doing the work in making it happen.

I think all session players should receive equity so we don’t end up with more tragedies like Clyde stubblefield
