Wait this is insane. I'd love to see it as a full game!

I'm gonna experiment with it further! it seems to resonate with a lot of people lol

I'm excited to see what it turns into! Looks very promising!

working on making it a full thing lemme cook

I like it, but, like, where is it going? Nothing ever disappears. Do you just play till you run out of space?

that's TBD!

amogus

yes, you remade Tetris DS’s Catch mode

This is neat. I made a prototype kind of similar. The middle just kept rotating like a windmill and you’d have to launch tokens at it to keep momentum and balance. Yours makes way more sense. I do have a question.. what do the circles represent in the tokens? Just eye tracking pivot?

the circle in the held piece? that's the center of rotation!

@cranberryclock I think this account is a bot lol

@FreyaHolmer @cranberryclock What? Nothing about that account screams bot to me 😭

@FreyaHolmer @cranberryclock If you look at their other reply it sounds exactly like a bot trying to be agreeable and hype an idea up.

@FreyaHolmer @cranberryclock Nah they've even posted their own work as a Dev. This is real.

I will just short reply Freya, You think I am a bot? Damn I’m doing it well. (What’s funny is I even mention in posts as a joke that I started talking as mic like ChatGPT in order to have people be convinced I’m a bot but then realize there’s so much mistakes and grammar problems lol

This reminds me of that metroid themed mode from tetris ds

looks fun!!

This looks incredibly satisfying from a tactile perspective! Looking forward to seeing what the goal ends up being. Is it to create the largest NxN square around the axis as possible, right now?

that's the current goal yeah! it's just not very challenging and there's no win/fail states at the moment I have a few ideas for that, but I need to test them first

This reminds me of the catch mode from Tetris DS

You have my curiosity. What's the goal? Grow the square?

for now that's it yeah

Looks like something to me

But what exactly is the goal? Make the square grow to a certain size while the outer four walls surrounding the square + blob must not be touched? To make it more continuous, level up = the thing resets with a coarser-grained shape that is a function of the last state of the square.

I think this is really damn clever! 👍

why does it sometimes not twist?

equal weight on both sides!

when the square reaches a certain size it should shrink, which is the equivalent of a line

How you felt dropping a banger of a game and asking if this is anything

Oddly satisfying. How do you lose?

Yes - now you need to fractalize it…make the whole screen grow with the square at a certain level, and make the pieces larger to fit. This will make it infinite…just increase speed as you go and add a fail line.

A cool idea would be flying ships (think Galactica) or turrets shooting from every angle trying to destroy whatever you're protecting on the inside (like an orb), and the goal is to build around and try to keep the orb from being destroyed. Like a wall building concept.

Neat! But how do you clear?

right now you can't! clearing is difficult from a design perspective, since "falling" towards the center has a lot of ambiguities that aren't predictable

I've seen someone on Reddit with this sort of mechanism and I believe quite a few mobile games do it. I myself am working on a block-like where you can glue them togerher to clear bigger lines. Also have different well shapes, gravity, and an evolution mode where the well shape changes dynamically.

You got a very interesting new twist on Tetris here. This is DEFINITELY something!

Almost feels like a reverse Cubello

what happens if you cover a hole? maybe the full layer on top clears until you fill it?

if it is perfectly balanced after piece placement does it skip rotation?

looks great! make it a thing!

Looks cool

Needs a way to remove bricks though. Maybe have an expanding rectangle bounding box, and if you fill out a full row on one of the sides, it removes it and shrinks the box back.

Looks like productive stress to me 😎

Tetris Ds' catch mode looks kinda like this

Anyone remember Tetrisphere on the N64? Kinda reminds me of a 2D version of that

"Is this anything" > Showcases the coolest fucking premise for Tetris ever made. Yes. Yes it's something.

absolute banger, congratulations
