Been getting into rewatching Roger Moore Bonds lately, and completely forgot about the out of nowhere insanely high-class death scene in Moonraker where Michael Lonsdale sets hounds on Corinne Cléry (the lady from The Story of O) cued to sumptuous as fuck John Barry orchestration

Probably colored by being the first Bond I ever saw as a kid but still love this one, ultimate expression of the Moore’s era underlying interest in a bit of pulp clownery (Jaws is like, an Italian comic figure in this), absolutely the most a Bond actor ever felt like Adam West

There's also the Jaws stalker sequence in Rio. Moonraker's famous for being one of the more tonally varied Bond films. There's stuff like this and epic adventure in South America and space, and then there's the Venice gondola scene.

Why didn’t she jump in the golf cart? Followed by the benny hill theme

@DesolatedMrBond Is there a more underrated Bond villain than Hugo Drax?

I still think this is best Moore outing even with all the goofy and derivative aping of Star Wars and such. Great carnival opening, the fight in the clocktower, all the insane sets and production design, fun French locations and Lonsdale might be the better villain in a while.

@ArchivistPulp Absolutely one of the coldest and brutal deaths in the series and it's perfect.

It’s the only great scene in the movie, frankly, even if one can’t help but wonder why she choose to run in the forest instead of driving the golf cart!

Barry's music was also a couple of notches too solemnly beautiful at the start of the space battle - the storming of the Drax station - before the raygun sound fx take over

The Moore films were so odd in that they were rife with mugging and gags, but then would throw in a random sinister-as-fuck sequences like this (like 009 being stalked through the forest in Octopussy, which is genuinely tense and eerie and made an impression on me as a kid).

Superb finger click while wearing gloves.

Barry’s soundtrack to Moonraker and The Black Hole are two of my all time favorite soundtracks ever.

YES! Moonraker's legacy online is the ridiculous laser space battles, which I still love, but up until that point it's a really great Bond film that takes itself as seriously as any other Moore Bond.

The dogs in this movie are Beaucerons! Developed in France during the 1500’s, officially standardized in 1922, originally bred for shepherding, they were prized as messengers, mine detectors & search/rescue dogs during both world wars!

The opening to “For Your Eyes Only” is absolutely LEGENDARY! “You are now flying remote control airways!” Blofeld dropped down a smokestack was incredible!

I refused to watch the rest of the film for years because of this. It felt completely unnecessary.

John Barry could make anything seem majestic and operatic.

She changes from heels into sneakers and long socks before starting to run into the forest.

That death scene is literally one of the weirdest moments in this weird movie. Moonraker is so insane and we literally get a whole sequence of a girl running from Dobermans to her death.

I didn't realise Michael Lonsdale was in it. I think of him as the detective in "The Day of the Jackal". He was also the French ambassador in "The Remains of the Day."

Look after Mr Bond. See some harm comes to him 😭

Even more insane is that the rest of the film is so goofy and silly
She had a 50 yard lead and it took 45 seconds to catch her? Them dogs are slow as hell…

Agree 100% , Moonraker is not one of best ( Michael Lonsdale is a superb actor ) this scene and the opening credits are classic !

That was the moment he had to be taken out for that. Glad 007 made him pay.

Is that Peter Dinklage before the accident?

Michael Lonsdale had one of the best quips too!

This opening sequence is both a metaphor for what cads like Bond do to women; seduce them, use them and abandon them to their unrequited love and the black dog of depression but also what empires like the British Empire do to countries they invade and exploit.

She ran right past a perfectly good golf cart.

@DesolatedMrBond A great scene. Visually amazing. The dark tone.

I’m actually kinda scared to even play the clip. D:

The last Bond soundtrack by John Barry. Unfortunately it had the weakest arrangement of the "007" theme (not to be confused with the "James Bond" theme). I wish the modern Bond films would bring back a modern version of the 007 theme.

@gerainted Ignore the change in footwear at the end

Please try to get your point across without the profanity.

🎵Moonraker! he's the man The man with the moonest touch A spacy touch Such a cold raker 🎶
