been playing ace combat assault horizon lately

i did finish it recently. my thoughts: its mid and not ace combat. barely much mission variety and the most mission variety is the bomber/helicopter missions which are much worse. but the gameplay loop is fun. in the end i liked it. also holy fuck that ost

Unironically the BEST game in the franchise but people are not ready for that.

Lowkey loved it, the last mission in Ace Combat Assault Horizon is purely aura and hype moments, it’s a good game but it’s not a good Ace Combat game

The soundtrack and aircraft destruction mechanic do ALOT of heavy lifting for the game. DFM needs to stay dead and buried.

DFM mode aside, it's a severely underrated entry

Honestly the ost atleast is good like any other Ace combat games but yeah it's really not Ace combat in general

Everything in that game is anywhere from fine (plot) to great (ost) but gameplay really kills the fun, they had good ideas but forcing dogfight mode to kill most enemies and have it too rigid and scripted was too much. Also fuck that one rocket at the end of bomber mission.

I honestly thought DFM as the main gameplay focus wasnt that bad and quite fun, except its only fun when you can use it during standard gameplay cause anywhere else its just a dumb scripted chase scene that gives me vertigo. Also i thought the rocket was cool idk i didnt struggle

I mean yeah, but tracks like these would go so hard alongside the usual orchestral scores in a mainline game

The only positive thing about this game I remember is that the voice warning systems are either in english, russian, french or japanese, depending on the plane. Very neat, haven't seen this in any other AC title I played

funny cool aura farming game basically, it's complete ass but I will say flying through Dubai while the camera has a seizure is pretty fun

I would honestly recommend 4 the most as its the most simple to the core ace combat and gives a good introduction to the world. I see 7 recommended usually but ive seen people soured on it cause of the story which won't make alot of sense without context from previous entires

OST is godlike and i like the fact your character is alive (regardless if its good or not) but yeah, its mid and scripted fights with DFM are not fun

Assault Horizon would unironically cook if it was part of a different franchise. Like Nintendo could steal DFM and make an ACTUALLY NEW Star Fox game about it or they could make a new Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces and it would totally be fine.

The heli part is so confusing I'd infect whoever suggested them to add heli gameplay with super aids

Heli gameplay wasnt that bad its pretty much how you expect a helicopter based ace combat to play like, HOWEVER theres only two heli missions at the beginning and end of the game so you end up forgetting all the controls like I had to go back to the first mission to remember

It's dogshit, even when you remove DFM. The nicest thing you can say about it is that a few of the songs are okay.

this was my very first ace combat game (I've since played most of them) and I was so sad to see that most people hated it. Not enough games let me play as big boy bombers.
