Bees force humanitarian aircraft to make precautionary landing in Central African Republic An unusual aviation incident occurred on Monday, 31 August, when a UN humanitarian aircraft operating in the Central African Republic was forced to make a precautionary landing at Bambari, in the Ouaka prefecture, after bees entered the... cabin shortly after departure from Bangui. The aircraft was en route from Bangui to Bangassou when the presence of a large number of bees on board prompted the pilot to divert and land at Bambari to protect passengers and crew. After landing, passengers were evacuated while local teams dealt with the insects. The aircraft was subsequently cleaned and disinfected before being cleared to continue its journey. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. Following several hours on the ground, the aircraft resumed its flight to Bangassou at approximately 14:10 local time. While highly unusual, the incident highlights a fundamental principle of aviation safety: when an unexpected situation develops that could compromise the safety of those on board, crews must be prepared to take prompt and conservative action. During the crash landing, a part of the aircraft hit a light pole before the aircraft crashed onto the ground. A Hevilift Aviation Ltd PNG-operated ATR 42-500 veered off the runway while landing at Simberi Airport, Papua New Guinea, on Thursday. All passengers and crew disembarked safely with no injuries reported.
