“Being wrong feels exactly like being right. So we are all wrong about hundreds of things right now and we have no clue, and the only way you can find that out is by talking to people who think differently.” — Jonathan Haidt

@JonHaidt Not just talking to people who think differently, but inviting criticism and taking it seriously. The taking it seriously bit is particularly hard in cases where you feel pretty strongly you’re right. But feeling strongly is no guarantee you are.

@JonHaidt And it aggregates. An entire life of being mostly wrong about most things feels exactly like being right about most things. Therefore, feeling wise or superior to others is unreliable. That feeling that you are wise tells you nothing about your batting average.

@JonHaidt It's pretty much what J.S. Mill said and is in my opinion the single best argument is defence of freedom of speech

@JonHaidt We could use a few more people who think like Jon in the world.

@JonHaidt I learned this from @ScottAdamsSays and it really shifted my perspective.

@JonHaidt Thanks for the reminder.

@JonHaidt So... talk to smarter people. As this is difficult, it's better to read good books. So - great advice!

@JonHaidt I have doubts Wish I could express them with eloquence and tact, like a practiced psychopath might do

@JonHaidt Funny from someone who started condemning the vast majority of people who don’t accept his weak research results as “skeptics” who do “harm”

@JonHaidt No one can be rational 100% of the time. We're all apes, after all.
