He was cut from his 8th-grade team, didn’t play AAU basketball, and worked as a truck loader after high school before landing at Wenatchee Valley CC. Jones played three seasons of JUCO hoops before moving on to Idaho and then Washington State, where he helped the Cougars reach the NCAA Tournament. He presents a rather unique skill set in the front court, largely due to his late-blooming trajectory. He was 5'11" as a sophomore in high school, grew to 6'4" by the end of high school, and continued to grow through college –– measuring 6'7 ¾" without shoes at the NBA Draft Combine. The Isaac Jones sales pitch is centered around his strong intangibles, outstanding motor, unique pairing of coordination and length, and the defensive versatility he offers with the ability to move his feet, change angles, and contest with his impressive 7-foot-3 wingspan. He's conducted workouts with the Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Cleveland Cavaliers this past week. One of our favorite sleepers in the class.

He’s one of the best to ever come out of Division II. ⬇️ Western State, now Western Colorado, was the only program that offered him a shot at running back. He stayed four full years and became one of the most productive players the RMAC has ever seen. He averaged 146 rushing yards and 1.6 touchdowns per game over 40 starts. He put together one of the strongest careers in D2 history...and he didn’t have to leave to do it. At Western, Ekeler dominated. He averaged more than 100 rushing yards per game across four seasons, led the country in all-purpose yards in 2015, and earned academic honors alongside his on-field production. By the time he wrapped up his senior year, he was a Harlon Hill finalist with nearly 6,000 rushing yards to his name. His work was undeniable. But he still didn’t get a Combine invite. The draft came and went. No calls. Then the Los Angeles Chargers brought him into camp on a rookie deal and gave him a shot. He took it from there. He made the roster as a rookie and started producing immediately. First as a change-of-pace option. Then as a third-down threat. Then as the guy. In 2021 and 2022, he led the NFL in total touchdowns. Terry Busse had gone from All American Division 1 closer in 2023 to not even traveling with the team over a single year’s span, and he had lost ~4-5mph in the process. He's back into the mid 90's and absolutely slicing and dicing this spring. Honestly, there's not many battles harder than fighting your own pride and ego. Sometimes, reality sucks, but it is only when you accept the situation for what it is, that you can attack it head on. Staying after long weekend series and midweek games to dominate the weight room, not forcing or stressing about overnight change, and just putting in the daily deposits was the formula for the climb back to locking down games. Down, but not out-- Terry Busse Jr. is a warrior and has earned every bit of his way back.
