February 22 delivered the Sun's first spotless day in nearly four years - the last one being June 8, 2022. We are only about 18 months past solar maximum. That is early for a spotless day. The number of spots on the Sun are a core solar cycle indicator. Spotless days only appear as magnetic activity severely weakens. While one spotless day does not end the current cycle, it does signal the decline phase is well underway. Solar cycle 25 is waning. Solar minimum is approaching. Looking ahead, some forecasts suggest the next cycle (26) could be another long drawn out one with climatic consequences to match.

Cool thing I noticed right now whilst driving in China: I use Amap for navigation (the Chinese equivalent of Google Maps or Waze), which itself uses Beidou as a satellite navigation system. And the thing is so precise it shows you on which lane you are on the highway!
