Shapiro singled out former Trump strategist Steve Bannon as a prime example. Over the summer at a Turning Point USA event, Bannon enthusiastically pushed Epstein-related theories, declaring, “Epstein is a key that picks the lock on so many things, not just individuals, but also institutions, intelligence institutions, foreign governments, and who’s working with him on our intelligence apparatus and in our government.” Shapiro pointed out the irony: “Here, for example, was Steve Bannon… Here’s Jeffrey Epstein’s friend and quasi-fixer Steve Bannon doing the exact same thing.” He accused Bannon and others in that circle of hypocrisy for promoting intelligence-agency conspiracies around Epstein while simultaneously trying to tie Trump to the disgraced financier. The Daily Wire host concluded that those traveling in the same circles as “a literal adviser to Jeffrey Epstein” yet complaining about Trump’s supposed Epstein connections likely “have another agenda.” Shapiro acknowledged disagreement with some of Bannon’s broader priorities but noted that Bannon at least “will say the quiet part out loud,” unlike others pushing similar narratives under the guise of concern.
