Bengaluru ORR Flooding: A Recurring Challenge That Needs Structural Solutions Yesterday's (June 2) heavy rainfall once again flooded key stretches of Bengaluru’s ORR, including Panathur, Balagere and Varthur, resulting in severe congestion and hours-long commutes for thousands of employees and residents. While the immediate trigger was an intense pre-monsoon...

This handle wakes up to post a random post. You literally can hold the Govt accountable easily. Yet you are powerless inspite of contributing millions of dollars in taxes to this state govt. Something doesn't add up. How could you not demand better roads and walkways from govt.

First of all, keep the road clean. See the impact yourself. Have you seen how an entire lane on both sides of ORR is covered with sand, dust, cement blocks, mattress, pillows, cardboard etc? Clean that first.

Don't give a typical IT project solution. Tons of complex jargon and fancy solutions. Simple steps first. Clean the roads of sand and debris. This itself will keep the entry to drains free. Automatically reduces silt in the debris. You don't need rocket science solutions

What's the point of having an association that needs to tweet to point out issues. Meet with officials, and tweet about hwat discussions were done. Don't complain here. Citizens are doing that already.

What you have requested is all useless. Just basic cleaning the roads, ensuring there's no dust accumulation on roads and near drain entries will solve a major problem.

This is not an IT corridor. Pathetic management by Bangalore authorities. Slums are better than this. Doesn't the GBA know how to clean drains regularly, then they should stop collecting taxes.

Bengaluru's Biggest Monsoon Tradition: Flooded Roads and Empty Promises This is Bengaluru. Looking at these visuals, one would think it is a swimming pool, not one of the city's major roads. The irony is that despite endless claims of development, smart infrastructure, and rapid urban growth, the same roads turn into waterlogged stretches every single time it rains. Just look at the water level. Vehicles are struggling to move, commuters are stranded, and residents are forced to wade through flooded roads. This is not an isolated incident or a one-time problem. It has become a recurring story across Bengaluru whenever there is moderate or heavy rainfall. The bigger question is: where are taxpayers' hard-earned money and infrastructure funds going? Citizens pay road tax, property tax, and numerous other charges with the expectation of basic civic amenities. Yet year after year, the city continues to witness the same drainage failures, poor road planning, and lack of accountability.Authorities issue promises after every monsoon, conduct inspections, and announce new projects, but the ground reality remains unchanged. If Bengaluru is truly India's technology capital, why are its residents still battling flooded roads every rainy season? Development cannot be measured by announcements and advertisements alone it must be reflected in the quality of infrastructure that citizens use every day.Until authorities fix the root causes of poor drainage, unplanned construction, and inadequate road infrastructure, Bengaluru's roads will continue to resemble swimming pools rather than the modern urban network that residents deserve. Karnataka State Police S. This is one of the worst stretches in Bengaluru, and unfortunately, this is not the first time it has been waterlogged. Year after year, every time heavy rain hits the city, this underpass turns into a lake, causing severe inconvenience to commuters, damaging vehicles, and putting lives at risk. Despite repeated incidents and countless complaints from citizens, nothing seems to have changed. The most frustrating part is that this problem is entirely predictable. Authorities know exactly what happens here during every monsoon, yet there appears to be no permanent solution or effective drainage system in place. Instead, residents and daily commuters are forced to suffer the same ordeal repeatedly while promises of infrastructure improvements remain on paper. Citizens pay taxes expecting better roads, proper stormwater management, and safe public infrastructure. However, situations like this raise serious questions about planning, accountability, and maintenance. How many more years will people have to endure the same issue before meaningful action is taken? A city aspiring to be a global technology hub cannot afford to have critical roads and underpasses flooded after every spell of rain. Public issues deserve attention, and citizens deserve better than the same recurring problem year after year. Karnataka State Police S. Smooth Commute Ahead on Hebbal–Nagawara Stretch 🚶‍♂️...🛵... 🚗✨ A major clean-up and encroachment removal drive along the Hebbal–Nagawara–Allalasandra Bridge (Outer Ring Road) corridor is set to improve traffic flow, pedestrian movement and overall road safety. Over the past week, a large-scale sanitation and debris-clearing operation was carried out across this busy stretch, involving multiple civic and infrastructure agencies, along with local businesses, traders and community groups. 🔹 What was done? • Removal of construction debris and roadside waste • Clearing of encroached footpaths to restore pedestrian access • Beautification of pedestrian pathways • Elimination of long-standing garbage black spots 🔹 Key impact: • Around 1,200 tonnes of waste and debris cleared • Over 150 sanitation workers deployed daily • Use of JCBs, tractors, tippers and compactors • ~40 illegal shop extensions removed, freeing footpaths for public use 🔹 Local-level results: In Dasarahalli ward alone, 150 tonnes of waste were cleared and 80 metres of footpath was upgraded with the support of civic staff and volunteers. 🌱 Why this matters: Cleaner roads, safer footpaths and smoother traffic not only improve daily commutes but also encourage better civic habits, environmental responsibility and respect for public spaces. 📍 Location: Hebbal – Nagawara – Allalasandra Bridge (ORR) Bengaluru North City Corporation

Earlier today, I led an extensive inspection tour of critical drainage infrastructure and flood mitigation projects across Lekki, Agungi, Ikota and Ajiran, and what we uncovered demands immediate and decisive action. The persistent flooding in Agungi despite the completion of major drainage infrastructure over two years ago has a clear cause. At Ajiran, we discovered that a land owning family deliberately blocked the outfall channel that was specifically designed to discharge stormwater by gravity into the Lagos Lagoon. I have directed that the outlet be reopened immediately in the overriding public interest. Let me state clearly: no individual or family has the right to obstruct natural watercourses or public drainage infrastructure regardless of their land titles. We are not taking anyone's land. We are simply restoring the channel to allow water to flow freely and protect thousands of residents from avoidable flooding. At Megamond Estate in Ikota, we found that developers had illegally reclaimed part of the Ikota River and commenced construction without obtaining the necessary environmental and drainage approvals. Enforcement and abatement notices had been served previously but were ignored. From tomorrow morning, all illegal structures erected on reclaimed drainage alignments without approval in that estate will be removed. This action sends a clear message that Lagos will not tolerate encroachment on drainage channels or public infrastructure. I also reiterate that any development involving wetlands or water related projects must obtain an Environmental Impact Assessment and Wetland Clearance from the Ministry before any reclamation or construction begins. We do not care whose ox is gored. It is unfair to law abiding residents and unacceptable because it compromises public safety. I urge every Lagosian to remain vigilant. The illegal activities we uncovered today came to our attention through whistleblowers. We investigated, verified, and acted. See something, say something - constructively. We are fully committed to a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos.

Public Safety Ignored: Child Falls Into Uncovered Drain in Govindapura In a disturbing incident that once again exposes civic negligence in Bengaluru, a young school-going child fell into an open stormwater drain in Govindapura, Sarvajna Nagar. The incident occurred right in front of the school premises, where construction work was underway without even the most basic safety precautions. Shockingly, the stormwater drain had been left uncovered, with no barricades, warning signs, or protective measures in place. Due to the unsafe conditions on the road, the child was forced to walk along the edge to reach school and accidentally fell into the open drain where the slab had been left exposed. Such blatant carelessness highlights the utter disregard for public safety by the authorities responsible for overseeing the work. Thankfully, the child was rescued immediately by alert passersby and escaped without any injuries. However, this narrow escape cannot be brushed aside as mere luck. The incident comes less than a week after another tragic case in which a child lost his life due to negligence by the Water Board, raising serious and alarming concerns about the continued failure of civic agencies, including the GBA, to ensure safe infrastructure.Residents of the area have expressed anger and frustration, stating that slow, poorly planned, and unsafe construction work has turned daily movement into a life-threatening task. Parents fear for their children’s safety, while pedestrians are left to navigate dangerous roads filled with open drains, debris, and incomplete works. This incident is yet another reminder that unchecked infrastructure projects and lack of accountability are putting innocent lives at risk. Authorities must be held responsible for their negligence before more lives are endangered. Safety cannot be treated as optional, and urgent action is needed to ensure proper barricading, clear signage, and strict monitoring of civic works to prevent such incidents from recurring #bangalore #bengaluru #drainage #gba #kid Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS Greater Bengaluru Authority Karnataka State Police S.
