NEW: China launches its first humanoid robot soccer league in Beijing. This is way more entertaining than regular soccer. The AI-controlled robots were supplied by Booster Robotics for the tournament and have the skills of 5 to 6 year old children. Robots were seen getting carried off the field on stretchers after falling over. Booster Robotics founder Cheng Hao says the robots' abilities will exponentially increase over time and will eventually challenge adult teams. "We chose the football scenario for robot competition primarily for two reasons: first, to encourage students to apply their algorithmic skills to real-world robotics," Cheng said. "Second, to showcase the robots' ability to walk autonomously and stably, withstand collisions, and demonstrate higher levels of intelligence and safety."

In the earliest drafts of The Lord of the Rings, the character we know as Aragorn and Strider was a Hobbit named Trotter. His name came from the fact that he either had wooden feet or wore wooden shoes after being tortured in Mordor. BMW's response was the 320is, sold exclusively in Italy and Portugal, using an S14 de-stroked to exactly 2.0 litres by shortening the crankshaft and replacing the pistons and connecting rods. The 320is produced 192 PS from that 2.0-litre four-cylinder. It shared the M3's dogleg gearbox, limited-slip differential, and the same engine. The block, the head, the redline were all S14. Only the bore and stroke had changed. In Italy and Portugal, buyers received an M3-specification car for the tax cost of a 2.0-litre engine. In club racing, that displacement also opened the 2.0-litre class, where the M3-derived engine ran against machinery with a fraction of its development budget. The 320is never left those two markets, never received the international press the M3 earned. It was an M3 built to satisfy a tax code. That is not a footnote. That is a car worth knowing.

NEW: Montana man starts driving off after picking up pizza only to find a dog chilling in the back seat. One problem: The man got into the wrong car. Vincent Zepeda accidentally got into a car that looked very similar to his & started driving off. Zepeda says he had the ‘sh*t’ scared out of him when he found a dog in the back seat. The owner of the car left their key fob inside which is why he was able to start the car. “When I looked over my shoulder and saw the look on that dog, it was surreal because I also had an English lab that looked just like that,” he said to USA Today.

John toured NIO's factory in China. They built an upscale EV for under $10k and went from the first shovel in the ground to the first car off the line in just 17 months. He said China knew it would always be behind in ICE cars, so it pushed aggressively into EVs to leapfrog to the next technology and gain an advantage over the rest of the world. "Going to their factory and seeing, number one, how quickly that factory is built. And second, the factory automation -- much of the process was done via robotics. Looking at the auto plants we have in the US, we still have a plant that was originally built a 100 years ago, operating outside of Chicago. The average age of a US plant is roughly 40 years now. They've been upgraded over time but I don't think they replicate what's happening with robotics in China. This combination of being able to do things really quickly with a skilled but low-cost labor force and robotics has just allowed China to create a quality product at a price that nobody in the rest of the world's really been able to figure out yet."
