I believe the Rudo here is the late Squadron Leader Rudo Mutikani. I understand she joined the war when she was 14. There is a reason why I have a deep respect for real war veterans. Apart from the fact that my father is one, it's knowing that those who really fought for this country did without the cunning & calculative intent for power. They genuinely fought for Zimbabwe. Most were child soldiers. I am glad that Robert Tapfumaneyi is giving these gallant sons and daughters the platform to speak for themselves. I have watched countless episodes, and you can tell those who fought don't brag about war. Majority of those who were at the front had little education. Most of them came back to a country that prioritized those who didn't fight. A country whose reconcilliation policies even favored those who had collaborated or served the colonial regime. Cde Rudo could not write her own name and it took the intervention of Perrance Shiri. How many of the thousands who came from the bush were in the same boat. From what I gather, there was no career guidance. The lucky ones had someone telling them to go back to school but a lot fell through the cracks. I have seen a lot of disdain being laid upon them especially after the ZW$50K which by the time they got it was equivalent to USD4000 (Present day $8,229.00). It was a bribe by a failed government which had ignored their plight for over 17 years. When you look at the sacrifice of war, that amount is nothing. Our government failed to foresee the challenges of civilian integration and did not prepare these folk for life in the independent Zimbabwe. They bred a crop of dependents when they could have eased them into independence. Every interview is a comrade wallowing in poverty. In other countries, there are military hospitals, veterans preferential programs , loans etc and civilians don't complain about it because they have a better life courtesy of the sacrifices of their veterans. In our country, civilians are poor. When they have sought an alternative government, ZANU PF has used some of the dependent veterans to suppress the will of the people. That has negated all the good sacrifices the war veterans did during the war. Now, civilians feel like veterans don't deserve any respect nor preferential or affirmitive programs. But, as you listen to the stories of those who actually fought, you realize they too are victims of the same regime. It is not too late for the few that remain to do right by the people. As long as they remain on the sidelines or propping the Mnangagwa regime, they will die as paupers while thieves grow caterpillar bellies.

I am a proud Marine who was sent to Iraq in a war we never should have fought. Told “you go to war with the army you have. On this Memorial Day we remember those who have given their lives in the service of this nation, and we hold in our hearts the families and loved ones they left behind. For those of us who wore the uniform in combat, this is a day where we remember our friends and comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them as they were: sons and daughters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers. And we rededicate ourselves to living good lives, not to waste the opportunity to live on they gave us with their sacrifice. The willingness of some young Americans to sign the dotted line and risk their futures for the good of the nation is a resource we must jealously guard. It cannot be abused and squandered by those in power for their own benefit. The best way to honor the dead is to make sure future generations are not sacrificed for no reason. Semper Fidelis.

Thank you to all who joined us in Brewer yesterday to fight to stop this senseless war. Full remarks and video below. ********* First, I want to say thank you to Food and Medicine for having me. The work of Food and Medicine, the Eastern Maine Labor Council, quite frankly, has really kept organizing alive and as part of the state for a long time. And if you have the time and the energy to get involved, I highly recommend that you do. I also just want to give a hearty thank you to everyone who's joined us here today. It means a lot and it also shows that this is, whether it's mothers, whether it's veterans, whether it's people just running for political office and part of our main community, nobody wants this war. Absolutely no one thinks that this is a good idea. And the reason why they don't want it is because they know what it's actually about. This is a war that's being pushed by Benjamin Netanyahu. He's been trying to make this war happen for almost 30 years. This is a war that's being pushed by the Saudis, who have also wanted this war to happen. Two nations that are happy to watch American blood be expended on their behalf. This war is also being pushed because Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. And other people in the White House, and other people connected with the Epstein class. They are terrified that we have noticed what they are doing. They are terrified that we're going to start wondering why the hell we let them stay in power. And to do that, they're going to do the oldest trick in the book. They're going to try to just start a war to distract all of us. They are willing to sacrifice the lives of young American men and women and the lives of Iranian civilians simply to protect their political interests. I cannot think of a more reprehensible act. I cannot think of a more unpatriotic act, of a more un-American act, than to send our sons and daughters off to die, to kill, to bring immense violence to innocent civilians abroad simply because you're afraid you might lose the midterms. It is disgusting. As reprehensible as it is, it's also important to remember that this situation we find ourselves in is only possible because we have had a Congress that for decades has abdicated its responsibility, its constitutional responsibility, in making war. We need to rescind the 2001 Authorization of Use of Military Force. Its vague language and lack of clarity has been abused by multiple administrations of both parties to carry out wars in the name of the military-industrial complex and those in power, to carry out military operations that did absolutely nothing to keep Americans safe, but made some people very, very wealthy and protected the political interests of those in power. It needs to go. But not only does it need to go, we need a war powers resolution that actually claws power back from the executive branch. The resolutions that are on the table, I highly recommend you call your elected officials and put pressure on them to vote for them. They are necessary, but they are not sufficient. We need a truly reformed War Powers Act, where we really pull the power back. No more 48 hours of combat operations where you have to notify Congress. No more 60 days of combat operations before you have to prove to Congress that you should have gone to war in the first place. No. We need to know why military force is used right off the bat. And it needs to be approved by Congress right off the bat. The Constitution is clear about who is supposed to have the power of waging war in this country. It is the body that is most representative of the American people because it is the American people who have to bear the brunt of combat. It is the American people who are asked to make the sacrifice. It is American families who have to bury their dead sons and daughters. It is American friends who have to watch their best friends come home from a war and struggle for years with physical and mental trauma.

Then, in 1912, the serbian and montenegrin armies occupied it through war. And we lost it in war! But because of our national pride, it is difficult for us to admit this, yet these are the facts! King Alexander, Josip Broz Tito, Slobodan Milosevic, Kostunica, Dindic, and all the way to Aleksandar Vucic, all of them have tried. All of them have tried to solve the Kosova issue for more than 80 years, but they failed! For one simple reason: the Albanians of Kosova do not want to live with us! Think of it like a marriage where one side does not want to stay and leaves, while we keep them by force. They don't want to! And how do we imagine keeping them by force now? With war? Well, we tried with war too. Besides that, the largest NATO base, camp Bondsteel, is located in Kosova. All the countries surrounding us are in NATO. So what are we supposed to do now, fight against them? We must be reasonable, even though I belong to those who are in the minority, but this is how I see reality.

This is the first stage. We are now in a situation where it's 10 and 10 plus 20 for fentanyl, so 30% tariffs in the US of China goods coming in, and they can get rid of 20% of it if they solve the fentanyl problem. That they will do with certainty. But we’re not finished there and neither are millions of small entrepreneurs in America that I represent. We need IP law to be finally put into place so that our products and services are protected in their markets the way we protect theirs and ours. So, reciprocal playing field is where we need to go. This is a great first step but it's only the beginning. I want to sell to the Chinese people. I have no problem with them. I have a big problem with their government. They don't abide by the rules. We've known that for a long time and no admin has dealt with China, even after they came into the World Trade Organization in 2000. They've breached every covenant of that agreement so it's important for us to set the tone in terms of how we're going to go forward with China.
