As Republicans blame Biden, Trump actually had a lot to do with the $6 billion that Iran made from South Korea. There is a lot of blame from Republicans against Joe Biden for the Hamas attacks on Israel. It’s all based on a false narrative that he sent $6 billion to Iran, and then Iran sent that money to Hamas. This absolutely did not happen. Here are the facts: The money was from legal sales of oil that Iran made to South Korea, mostly, after Trump signed a waiver in 2018 to allow Iran to continue selling oil to the Asian nation. Trump imposed further sanctions in 2019 which forbade the sale of Iranian oil to South Korea (see video below). The Iranian money was still sitting in South Korean bank accounts from sales made before the sanctions went into effect. By law and under our current sanctions the money is permitted to be used for humanitarian purposes by Iran, as it doesn't belong to anyone but Iran. The money was transferred to Qatari Bank accounts that are under control of the Qatari government and US government. Every dollar taken out is require to go directly to US-vetted third parties and must be used for food, medicine, and medical equipment. Not a single dollar has been taken out of these accounts as of yet. Obviously not a single dollar has gone to fund Hamas like so many people are trying to claim.
