Greed is when one is terrified of loosing control over his/her life... It's something unhealed in that individual, who despite needs being fulfilled and some wants ( natural self preservation security), the only value they see in themselves is to force their self importance on others via over controlling, often ego fed by constantly by lowering others, often highly destructive individuals for healthy society... Greed is the symptom of where sanity stage is passed and became closer to "lunaticy"... It's not just normal urge to reach certain goals... It's a simple form of addiction to feed ego, as no other value recognised in those individuals. It has little to do with wanting to be successful it's a fear of no value other than via controlling narrative constantly.

He’s actually wrong. Greed is a Jewish value, and he’s a Jew. Everything is about money to him and there is nothing more important period. In a homogenous society like pre WWII America, money was not the center of our lives.

“Does any society not run on greed?” That isn't an explanation. It's a rhetorical escape hatch. Of course human beings are selfish. They are also vain, lustful, envious, compassionate and capable of solidarity. The existence of greed is not an economic theory. The real question is: what do institutions reward? Friedman's sleight of hand is to move from “people pursue self-interest” to “therefore society should be organized around competitive private accumulation.” But that conclusion doesn't follow. It has to be argued. Markets aren't laws of nature. They depend on property rights, courts, contracts, infrastructure, educated workers, central banks, subsidies, bailouts and the coercive power of the state. So ask the question Friedman avoids: Whose self-interest does the system empower? A poor man stealing groceries goes to jail. A corporation extracting billions through monopoly power, regulatory capture or financial engineering may be praised for “maximizing shareholder value.” That's not human nature. That's institutional design. And institutions have beneficiaries. Follow the money and “human nature” suddenly acquires an address. As for the commenter who says “greed is a Jewish value”: that's not an argument. It's an antisemitic conspiracy theory masquerading as political economy. Blame a people, and you never have to examine the institutions that actually concentrate wealth and power. Friedman was right that self-interest is powerful. He was wrong to pretend that this settles the political question. The question isn't whether greed exists. It's who gets to turn greed into a governing principle— and who gets to call the result freedom.

I do think Milton is right and I think Donahue, leftist that he was, was listening and taking in what Friedman had to say.

Greed is when a billionaire moves from a State or Country which provided infrastructure (highways, university, etc) that enabled their success .. to another State or Country to avoid paying their fair share of taxes .. all while leaving debt to the next generation.

Every system will fail some day. When the gap between the rich and poor grows. The system becomes un stable and begins to fall apart. Comunist system socialist system fall quicker. But capitalism will fall apart to. Who knows what will replace it.
