Best hologram I've ever seen.

Damn that's awesome. I took a holography class in undergrad and made one that incorporated a magnifying glass. A microscope is even crazier.

These were all the rage for years, then ended up being stickers on credit cards to prevent fake cards, when they figured out how to mass produce them.

There's still a bunch of potential in holography imo.

Holograms amaze me! It’s an almost like nature does massive computation to generate correct interference patterns for later 3D reconstruction… Light doing math through wave superposition. Must be a lot of data stored on that plate!

If you cut it in half, you still get the same image twice so where is the data going?

@vertiguy It's storing the entire lightfield (basically) in that wavelength of light in the aperture of the holographic plate. The information you lose is the perspective from the side. It's the same information lost if your window becomes half as big.

The December 1988 National Geographic had a shattering glass globe on the front cover. If you move it around, you can see the continents on the other side of the globe behind the ones in front, *and* the cracks appearing *inside* the globe.
