Gen 3 fan here. HGSS were better remakes. Yes, they're gen 2 remakes but, unlike ORAS, HGSS actually had content that their original 3rd game, Crystal, had. They also had the Sinnoh Battle Frontier. ORAS didn't add the Emerald Battle Frontier. Ohmori has made Pokémon worse.

This is a remake done right but got slapped with a 7.8/10 not because of “too much water” but because they didn’t bring back the Battle Frontier

These were the last good remakes for sure. The only good remake afterwards was Rescue Team DX, and that's a remake of a spin-off game. LGPE was trash and BDSP was mid AF. ORAS still remain the last good thing GameFreak put out 10+ years later.

HGSS is an amalgamation of Gold,Silver and Crystal it was made in a way to be the ultimate form of Johto. ORAS only focused on what Ruby and Sapphire did, and excluded the good Emerald did while also overly altering things idk I think Johto handled their remake better imo.

HG/SS were far better and are still the best remakes Gamefreak has ever made. ORAS may be better than ruby and sapphire but it’s still mogged by emerald.

Def top 5 for me but all it needed was the dang frontier or some sort of battle simulator in the post game and this is easily my favorite

HGSS wishes it was nearly as good a remake as BDSP, let alone this!
