OMFG! "Those of us with a pure heart and tranquil mind have already forgotten this man’s name." —The Cut defends Beyoncé after Gavin Adcock's comments about Cowboy Carter "To translate, Adcock thinks it’s fine when she’s singing in a genre known for its Black performers, but when she enters white people’s territory there’s an issue. This was, funnily enough, the impetus for Cowboy Carter, which Beyoncé said was “born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed … and it was very clear that I wasn’t.” The Beyhive has surmised that she was referencing the racism she experienced performing “Daddy Lessons” with the Chicks at the Country Music Awards in 2016. Now, these two must be neck and neck on Apple’s country chart, right? Certainly Beyoncé is the one artist blocking Adcock from achieving his dream of a top-selling record? Let’s check! It looks like Cowboy Carter is currently No. 20 on the iTunes country chart, while Adcock’s Actin Up Again is … No. 57. If he wants to beat Beyoncé, his album will have to start performing better than a decade-old Chris Stapleton record, John Denver’s greatest hits, and the soundtrack to Twisters. Conveniently, Adcock is releasing his new album, the aptly titled My Own Worst Enemy, in August. The cynics among us might think that this is all a stunt to garner press ahead of his new project while also quietly indicating some political beliefs. Those of us with a pure heart and tranquil mind have already forgotten this man’s name." 🔗
