* to mantain the original meaning of the song i used both the english version by tom jobin and the literal translation ¹ "é um laço, é um anzol" would literally translate to something like "it's a knot, it's a hook" but i think the english version still kept the meaning

² "peroba do campo" is a tree species from brazil. i couldn't find an english name for it, so i kept the english version's line. ³ "caingá" and "candeia" are also tree species. ⁴ "matita pereira" is a type of witch from the brazilian folklore who turns into a bird, who has the

same popular name. ⁵ "festa da cumeeira" it's a popular brazilian party who celebrates when a construction is finished. it's believed that it brings good luck so i kept the english version's line.
