The math is only as good as the numbers you start with, and the dates printed in an 1800s Bible are not part of the text. They come from Archbishop Ussher in 1650, and printers added them to the margins later. Look at Genesis 5 and 11. The Greek Old Testament that the early church read gives the patriarchs different ages than the Hebrew text behind your Bible, and the gap adds up to roughly 1,400 years. Then AD 1 itself is off, because Herod died around 4 BC and Jesus was born before that. There is no year zero either. So before anyone names the "real" year, he has to say which manuscript, which year length, and which starting point he used. Change any one and the answer moves by years or by centuries. Which text are you counting from?
