Walt and Mearsheimer will be happy to cite you as evidence of the validity of their thesis--that the Israeli lobby is a domineering power in Washington, DC. You are wrong: Biden does have plenty of leverage to pressure Netanyahu and to steer Israeli policies in a manner that serves American interests--or at least do not harm our interests. Biden could make a public statement, could 'secretly' stop shipping 'offensive' weapons to Israel, could withhold the veto power in the SC, could and could and could, in a subtle or direct manner or a combination of both. But, you forgot to mention that Biden holds similar Zionist views to the Israeli war cabinet and that Biden and his administration and nearly the entire US political establishment and the various American power structures have been 'active participants' in the ongoing genocide. We are beyond complicity now.

@gzeromedia - he could stop funding them and providing arms through side-deals. He’s done EVERYTHING to support Israel’s genocide and further land stealing of the Palestinians.

@gzeromedia The vast majority of Americans don’t care about the war. He’d probably win more votes by pivoting to focus on just about anything else. Or he could talk up his support for our ally’s generous fight against the terror group that killed Americans & *still* holds American hostages.

@gzeromedia Yeah..It's more than that, as Polling shows over 70 percent of America supports Israel. So burn that bridge if you will, but its not going to help your general election hopes.

@gzeromedia I really don’t understand the little leverage part.

@gzeromedia Serious question- how does Biden have very little leverage over Bibi? All of Israel’s weapons of war come from the US not to mention the billions in aid. Why can that not be used as leverage.

@gzeromedia Little leverage? They literally wouldn’t be able to fight longer than a week without American arms.

@gzeromedia He needs to pick a side that’s not Hamas and have the courage of his own convictions. Otherwise he will lose the Jewish vote and still not appeal to the far left fringe of the party. People respect a leader who doesn’t waffle.

@gzeromedia Biden has an extraordinary amount of leverage over Bibi if only he would use it Maybe he could start by flying back to Israel and take his hug back

@gzeromedia Biden has tons of leverage. He just won't use it.

Joe Biden has just announced he’s not running for re-election and will support Vice President Kamala Harris’s candidacy instead. The announcement came as a shock to the people who work at the White House and to campaign aides, one of whom told Politico, "We’re all finding out by tweet. None of us understand what’s happening.” The same was true in Delaware, Biden’s home state. “I don’t think a soul in Delaware knew,” said a Biden campaign official. As such, this is the third time in three presidential elections that Democratic Party elites have subverted democracy to choose a presidential candidate. The first time this occurred was in 2016 when the Democratic National Committee manipulated money and process to help Hillary Clinton defeat Bernie Sanders. The second time was in 2020, when Party elites pushed out Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar so Elizabeth Warren could split the progressive vote with Sanders, creating a path to victory for Biden. This year, Biden and the DNC prevented a competitive open primary, and now Biden is deciding who will be the nominee for Democrats. Harris was deeply unpopular with Democratic voters when she ran in the 2020 primary, leading her to drop out after her polling plummeted to the single digits. It’s true that the Democratic elites followed the formal rules, most Democrats agreed that Biden should not run again, and a Democrat could still challenge Kamala Harris at the convention. But the party undermined the spirit of democracy in every election. Democracy, at its core, is about letting the people decide for themselves. That simply didn’t happen. In fact, a very small number of Democratic Party donors and media elites chose Hillary Clinton, Biden, and Harris. In many ways it was the media who influenced donors and decided Biden should go after his disastrous debate performance. To the extent that ordinary Democratic Party voters turned against Biden it was in response to the media turning on him. When the media insisted that Biden was fine, and that the worries about his health were just right-wing propaganda, Democratic voters were loyal to him. While it’s true someone could challenge Harris for the nomination, it’s very hard to see that happening, given Biden’s endorsement and the argument from Kamala Harris supporters that it would be borderline racist for anyone else to win the nomination. Within a few hours, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Senator Tammy Baldwin, and Democratic mega-donor Reid Hoffman all endorsed Harris. Other Party elites will likely do the same. Over the last three weeks, Biden fought Democratic donors, media elites, and Party leaders. He insisted repeatedly he could do the job. But, in the end, they overwhelmed him. They withheld funding. They attacked almost every day, letting up for just 24 hours after the near-assassination of former President Trump. As a result, nobody could watch the events of the last few weeks and believe that the Democratic Party is democratic. It is a party controlled by the media, donors, and the deep state. However one feels about the GOP, the same can’t be said of Republicans. Republican voters rejected their own party leaders, donors, and the foreign policy establishment to nominate Trump for president in 2016. Democrats, by contrast, sided with the establishment candidate in choosing Clinton in 2016 and Biden in 2020. Why is that? Why did Democrats become the party controlled by elites and obedient to authority, and Republicans the party of rebellion and, increasingly, the working class?

Thousands Of New Yorkers Just Attended A Nazi Parade For Israel, And Other Notes Multiple far right Israeli ministers attended New York City’s Israel Day Parade on Sunday, including Israel’s genocidal finance minister Bezalel Smotrich. Smotrich is ideologically not significantly different from a Nazi. Which means New York City just hosted a Nazi parade that was attended by thousands of people. New York officials are acting shocked and appalled by Smotrich’s appearance at the march, but “I can’t believe there were Israeli officials at the Israel parade” is kind of a hard sell. This is just what supporting Israel looks like: standing shoulder to shoulder with genocidal extremists and making common cause with them. That’s what Israel is. ❖ Americans are growing concerned about the latest Israeli military nightmare, which of course means it’s time for Axios to publish another article telling them the president has got it all under control. The latest Axios narrative management op is titled “Trump fumes at Netanyahu in call on Lebanon,” claiming the president admonished the Israeli prime minister that he is “fucking crazy” over Israel’s escalation in Lebanon, saying “You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.” As usual the article was authored by Israeli intelligence insider Barak Ravid, who has made an entire career out of falsely reporting that the US president is furious with Netanyahu and is moments away from twisting Israel’s arm to make peace. Some Barak Ravid headlines from the Biden administration include the following: Biden “running out” of patience with Bibi as Gaza war hits 100 days Scoop: Biden in “frustrating” call told Bibi to solve Palestinian tax revenue issue Biden’s ultimatum to Bibi: Change Gaza policy or we will White House temperature is “very high” ahead of Biden-Bibi call “We won’t support you”: Inside Biden’s ultimatum to Bibi Israel and U.S. deeply divided in meeting on key Rafah operation issues Biden and Bibi “red lines” for Rafah put them on a collision course Biden-Bibi clash escalates as U.S. accused of undermining Israeli government Biden and Netanyahu hold first call in a month amid public split Biden breaks with Netanyahu but sticks with Israel Biden on hot mic: Told Bibi we needed “come to Jesus” meeting on Gaza Biden, in rare criticism, warns Netanyahu that Israel risks losing global support Biden, in rare criticism of Bibi, says pause in Gaza fighting should have come sooner Scoop: Blinken warns Israeli officials global pressure will grow longer war goes on Israeli minister lambasted at White House about Gaza and war strategy Scoop: Biden tells Bibi he’s not in it for a year of war in Gaza Blinken unloads on Bibi: “You need a coherent plan” or face disaster in Gaza Scoop: White House cancels meeting, scolds Netanyahu in protest over video Netanyahu irked by “critical” Harris comments Needless to say, Biden continued shipping weapons to Israel throughout the Gaza holocaust until the moment he left office in January of last year. There was never any meaningful conflict between the White House and Tel Aviv then, and we may safely assume that there there is no meaningful conflict between the White House and Tel Aviv today. As Antiwar’s Dave DeCamp notes, the Israeli press are reporting that Netanyahu’s planned attack on Beirut has been drawn up in coordination with Washington. ❖ A new UN report accuses Israel of rape and sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners, yet another entry into the mountains upon mountains of evidence for this already well-established fact. It’s crazy how the actual, serious hasbara narrative about all these reports is that there’s a giant global antisemitic conspiracy in which all humanitarian institutions are collaborating with mainstream news outlets in a sinister plot to make Israel look bad. ❖ The Zionist PR operation StopAntisemitism has a multi-paragraph post up on Twitter right now complaining that a hospital receptionist wore a keffiyeh at work, and it made a Jewish woman feel upset. That’s it. That’s the whole entire story. A Jewish person’s feelings felt upset about a piece of cloth. People are getting ripped to shreds by Israeli bombs in Lebanon and Gaza, but this is what we all need to focus on. When people talk about “skyrocketing levels of antisemitic incidents”, it’s mostly just stuff like this. ❖ Australia’s antisemitism czar released a document which simultaneously asserts that “Antisemitism and antizionism are both expressions of hatred towards Jews” AND that “It is antisemitic to conflate the policies of the Israeli government with the views of Jewish Australians”. These two sentences are contradictory and mutually exclusive. They cannot both be true. If it’s wrong to conflate all Jews with Israel, then it cannot be right to conflate a rejection of the pro-Israel political ideology with a hatred toward all Jews. It’s either one or the other. It can’t be both. Just in case you wanted a little more insight into how absurd and incoherent this fake “antisemitism” panic is.
