Friends, In the comments to my post about a Russian ballerina Maria Khoreva performing in Barcelona there are a lot of statements that the ballerina cannot do anything on her own, that her job is art, not fighting against the Kremlin's regime. In response to these statements, I could have given many examples of other Russian artists who have spoken against Russia's horrible war against Ukraine, left Russia, keep on working and have successful careers in the West. I could have shared a lot of stories about talented Ukrainian artists who will never again create anything because Russia killed them. When I say that art is never beyond politics, I mean that art and artists are a part of our world and are a reflection of the events that take place in the world. The full-scale war is going on for almost four years already. Millions suffered from it, there are tens of thousands of victims, horrible destruction, unbelievable amounts of grief. Double standards (politics to one side, art to the other side) legitimize the Kremlin's military aggression and endorse Russia to continue its expansion into Europe. Putin wants the war to continue. He is supported by a relatively small group of "hawks" and "Z-patriots," who make up roughly 29 percent. There is also a silent majority that has started to feel the effects of economic problems and is increasingly experiencing fear caused by Ukrainian drone strikes and, likely, the prospect of mobilization. They are the ones who could eventually erupt. The key question is whether a group of people will emerge within Russia itself, above all among its elites, who understand that the war is destroying Russia itself and who will be able to do something about it, one way or another.

Russia is finding it "significantly" harder to conduct combat operations against Ukraine because of a rise in Ukrainian long-range drone strikes on Russian weapons supplies, ammunition depots and fuel refineries, Sky News reported. I want to thank all our friends in Europe and in other parts of the world who come to Ukraine, who visit our regions and see what Russia is actually doing, and how important it is to maintain support for Ukraine at a sufficient level. It is precisely the sufficient level of support for Ukraine that provides one of the elements of pressure on Russia. The second element of pressure is sanctions against Russia. As someone who came from Venezuela to this country, whose family lived through the Holocaust, who loves this country with an abiding sense that it's given us everything, I have an obligation to go around the country and warn people that what's happening in this country is the precursor to the demise of this country. Antisemitism is a manifestation of deeper corrosive problems in our own society. It's the rot that is eating away at the wooden framework of our house. And if we love America, then we can't turn our back to the reality that in the past, where Jews have thrived, society has thrived. And where Jews have been persecuted and Jews have been killed, society was on its way out the window. For example, look at the Russia of Kishinev in 1903, one of the most horrible pogroms of the beginning part of the 20th century. 14 years later, 1917, that society no longer exists. The tsar and his whole family are executed, and a huge civil war erupts in Russia, changing the face of Russian society and much of the world forever. Think of the Germany of Kristallnacht of 1938. Seven years later, it was gone. Throughout history, we see that countries that allow the rot of antisemitism to metastasize through the framework of society, are actually societies that are crumbling from the inside.
