This is a long video but please watch to get a small taste of what it's really like in Pacific Palisades right now. This is from just one neighborhood. Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass promised to expedite construction after the Palisades Fire, to cut red tape and regulations. In reality not only have they failed at that; they've failed to intervene in the insurance crisis that's prevented many from even starting the rebuild process. And that's not even taking into account all of the other failures that caused this fire and made it so destructive. As we approach the one-year anniversary, Palisades residents still need help - and for state and local leaders to be held accountable.

Rick Caruso jumped into overdrive and ensured the Palisades Village Mall had private firefighters and water trucks. The Palisades is gone, but his mall survived. It makes you wonder what would have happened if he won his 2022 mayoral race against Karen Bass - would the rest of the Palisades still be standing? Half of the time leadership is just showing up and doing what needs to get done. It’s healthy to prove people wrong for a good cause. The number of calls we’ve received this week from retailers who want to come back to the Palisades, now that they have seen the amazing energy and sales numbers from the Palisades Village retailers and restaurants, has been incredible. We exceeded our sales and traffic goals this weekend. It is fantastic. It’s amazing what free enterprise and government can accomplish when they come together for the good of a community.

I’m asking my fellow commercial property owners and major retailers who have been in the Palisades for decades to take the lead and show confidence in the Palisades by rebuilding your stores. For example, Ralphs and Gelson’s. The community needs a traditional market. Today marks a major milestone for our city and this community as we officially began site clearance at Palisades Park. This project is about more than building Palisades Park — it’s about creating a world-class gathering place where kids can play, families can connect, and seniors can come together for generations to come. None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary collaboration between the public and private sectors, making this the largest public-private partnership in LA City history. Last summer I found myself sitting in a room in Switzerland surrounded by world leaders from completely different industries, all talking about the future of our planet. A very different environment to what I was used to! I was invited onto to a channel to give my take on leadership with my best mate and brother Jay. We talked about leadership and what it meant to us both. I always used to think leaders were born but it’s far from the truth…. They are made. My biggest realisation was that we talk a lot about leadership like it’s confidence and certainty. Like leaders always know what to do. The truth is they don’t… and that’s ok. But good leaders will go seek out better answers and grow. While poor leaders will leave it to someone else to do or turn a blind eye. The day made me realise most of my growth has come from failing. I try to lead with my best intentions, but upon reflection or feedback, I realise there was a better way to do it and then next time…. I lead better and the process repeats! And that day forced me to look at myself properly. As for me, leadership isn’t a title, or being a CEO or having an armband. It’s influence. And that’s the scary part, because everyone has it. Even my two young kids. Every morning before school I tell them the same thing: Be the sunshine in the room ☀️ Because whether we like it or not, we’re leading every single day. In the changing room. Much different scene here 24 hours later standing in the same spot in Palisades Park on the bluffs with the fires still burning up the coast. I spent the night in a hotel and just got back home to check it out since Santa Monica is good. Gutted for everyone in Malibu + Palisades. There are no words.
