Excited to share this demo from Over the Reality! Watch our Unitree Go2 robodog navigating our office while reconstructing the 3D space in real-time using the VGGT-based foundation vision model. This is a prime example of machine perception in action, turning raw RGB camera feeds into rich, detailed 3D maps! There is a beautiful story that just happened in AI so let me share it for a lighter tone weekend post among all the doom stories in our AI field this week. It’s a story of people on three continents building and sharing in the open a new small efficient and state-of-the-art AI model. It started a couple of months ago when a new team in the AI scene released their first model from their headquarters in Paris (France): Mistral 7B. Impressive model, small and very strong performances in the benchmarks, better than all previous models of this size. And open source! So you could build on top of it. Lewis in Bern (Switzerland) and Ed (in Lyon, in the South of France) both from the H4 team, a team of researchers in model fine-tuning and alignment were talking about it over a coffee, in one of these gatherings that often happen at Hugging Face to break the distance between people (literal distance as HF is a remote company). What about fine-tuning it using this new DPO method that a research team from Stanford in California just posted on Arxiv, says one? Hey, that’s a great idea, replies the other. We've just build a great code base (with Nathan, Nazneen, Costa, Younes and all the H4 team and TRL community) let's use it! The next day they start diving in the datasets openly shared on the HF hub and stumble upon two interesting large and good quality fine-tuning datasets recently open-sourced by OpenBMB, a Chinese team from Tsinghua: UltraFeedback and UltraChat. A few rounds of training experiments confirm the intuition, the resulting model is super strong, by far the strongest they have ever seen in their benchmarks from Berkeley and Stanford (LMSYS and Alpaca). Join Clementine, the big boss of the open evaluation leaderboard. Her deep dive into the model capabilities confirms the results: impressive performance. But the H4 team also hosts a famous faculty member, Pr. Sasha Rush, Associate Professor at Cornell University in his daytime, hacker at HF in his nighttime. Joining the conversation, he proposes to quickly draft a research paper to organize and share all the details with the community. A few days later, the model, called Zephyr (a wind like Mistral), paper, and all details are shared with the world. Quickly other companies, everywhere in the world starts to use it. LlamaIndex, a famous data framework and community, shares how the model blew their expectations on real-life use-case benchmarks, while researchers and practitioners discuss the paper and work on the Hugging Face hub. All this happened in just a few weeks catalyzed by open access to knowledge, models, research, and datasets released all over the world (Europe, California, China) and by the idea that people can build upon one another work in AI to bring real-world value with efficient and open models. Stories like this are numerous everywhere around us and make me really proud of the AI community and see how we can build amazingly useful things together. Interesting times in the maps space, and its exciting there is so much buzz - maps are awesome :) My parents Rakesh and Rashmi Verma pioneered digital mapping in India in 1995, returning from the US after a successful career there with the passion and desire to do something unique for India. I’d caution folks to check out quality and reliability of maps by browsing those maps in areas familiar to them, and if they notice errors in them, in terms of incorrect places marked wrongly on the map, it should serve as a reminder not to rely on such maps. Our tokenomics are designed by us, which means they might be flawed, but they are carefully chosen this way because we believe it's the best course of action considering our ambitions for SHRIMP. There will be a fancy pie-chart on our website, but to summarize, here is what it looks like: Total supply: 121,212,121. 30% - Community. 30% - Reserve. 15% - LP. 15% - Investors. 5% - DAO. 5% - Team. Here is a brief description for each category: Community: Community is sort of a broad term - this allocation includes, but is not limited to: Aptomingos, [REDACTED] Keys and CB ordinals: Our dear loyal supporters - the people who have faith in us. Aptomingos will naturally get the highest allocation, but we'd like to show good faith to both key holders and CB ordinal holders by providing a small allocation to them as well. And making connectivity work for our partners, the mobile network operators, and ultimately for the consumer mass market among other markets, is our focus. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile announced a proposed joint venture to extend mobile connectivity using satellite-based D2D technologies. You guys put out a statement commending the announcement. The user behaviors, unit economics, and regulatory hurdles are fundamentally different than other markets. With DePIN Summit Africa 2025, we hope to bridge that gap and help plant the seeds for DePIN to expand its reach globally, and specifically into East Africa going forward. Once we started to work with large global retailers, we needed a better way to scale this process. Ideally, the staff at the store could do this themselves — rather than us flying our team across the world — and then we could lower the cost and timelines. So we built a self-serve version of our survey app, with a tutorial mode designed for beginners. Over time, we collected millions of data points, and so we were able to develop an algorithm which would auto-correct mistakes. In other words, if the surveyor accidentally placed their ground-truth location in the wrong place on the map, we could use our algorithms to detect it, and correct it. So now we have WiFi, and with and our efforts on producing a high quality survey, we have the best WiFi positioning available. With WiFi on its own, it’s achieving 3 meter accuracy. This is a great foundation to build on. WiFi + Motion data To refine this down to 1-meter accuracy, we realised that we could combine WiFi with the same technology behind self-driving cars and robotics: a motion system called SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). SLAM uses the accelerometer, gyroscope and camera system to understand precise device motion. Imagine a car driving through a tunnel, using the motion since its last GPS ping to keep location accurate until it comes out the other side. On a phone, this technology is very reliable, and measures device motion with high precision. But SLAM is measuring motion within its own coordinate space, it’s not aligned with the real world. SLAM tracks the user’s relative motion, like “moved forward 2 meters, then turned left”, but does “forward” mean “north”, or some other direction? It’s not calibrated, so it could mean any location, any direction. We can’t rely on the compass to help us out with this, because phone compasses are notoriously incorrect — everyone knows the frustration of being sent the wrong way down a street. So our job was to align this motion data with the triangulation data we were receiving from WiFi. We designed an algorithm that could simulate every possibility, filter the unlikely scenarios, and hone in your location, using WiFi as an anchor. So WiFi gives us the initial blue dot, SLAM gives us motion, and as the user starts walking and we receive more data, our algorithms can refine location accuracy down to a consistent 1-meter accuracy. We’ve tested these algorithms in many locations, on hundreds of hours of ground-truth data:

This choice allows us to use the same high-quality assets for cinematic TV, movies, and games, reducing costs and enhancing consistency. - Asset Reuse: By developing assets once for high-quality output, we can use them across comics, games, and animations. This method, similar to what was done in "Arcane," involves hand-painting over 3-D models for a unique look. - Cost and Efficiency: This approach isn't common due to its difficulty and the need for story consistency. However, it allows for smarter production, echoing the methods of visionaries like Disney and Hanna-Barbera, ensuring we can sustain and grow our IP like Pokémon. Current Status: - Pre-production: We're well into preproduction, with story development, storyboards, color scripts, and asset creation nearly complete.
