Pakistan has shut all routes that had become primary channels for smuggling, narcotics, illegal weapons, and terrorism. This trade suspension is a landmark decision with far-reaching implications for national security, economic stability, and the enforcement of state authority. Impact on Afghanistan Afghanistan is bearing the brunt of this closure—economically, socially, and institutionally. Nearly 70–80% of Afghanistan’s trade depends on Pakistan’s roads and ports. Goods reach Afghanistan from Karachi within 3–4 days, whereas via Iran they take 6–8 days, and through Central Asian corridors they may take over 30 days. For years, goods under Afghan Transit Trade were illegally re-entering Pakistan through smuggling, causing massive financial losses. Pakistan has been losing 3.4 trillion PKR annually due to smuggling, while nearly 1 trillion PKR worth of goods bounced back through Afghan Transit Trade, compounding the damage. The closure of Torkham alone inflicted $45 million losses on Afghanistan within one month, and in just a few weeks, Afghanistan’s cumulative losses exceeded $200 million. As smuggling stopped, more than 200,000 families tied to smuggling networks, backflow routes, and under-invoicing lost their source of income. Impact on Pakistan The trade suspension has almost no effect on the daily life of an average Pakistani, because the items entering Pakistan through smuggling were luxury goods, not essential commodities. If Afghanistan had not picked a fight with Pakistan today it could have benefited from Pakistan in a way equivalent to acquiring two modern and advanced JF 17 fighter jets, the price of a single JF 17 is approximately 25 million dollars and two aircraft together cost around 50 million dollars, on the other hand trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been completely suspended for nearly a month and the financial loss Afghanistan is facing is roughly equal to the value of those two JF 17 jets, although Pakistan cannot sell JF 17 aircraft to Afghanistan it could have provided related defensive capabilities such as missiles used on the JF 17 platform, however Pakistan has now ended the so called brotherly approach toward Afghanistan, just as Pakistan has kept its airspace closed to Indian airlines for months to apply pressure, it has now shut its land routes to Afghanistan to bring strategic clarity, this matters because Afghanistan conducts nearly 70 to 80 percent of its trade through Pakistan and goods from Karachi used to reach Afghanistan within three to four days, with Pakistan closing its routes Afghanistan is now considering the Iranian corridor which is slower more expensive and less efficient under current conditions, as a result Afghanistan is facing severe economic stress and the impact of these losses is becoming increasingly visible.

Islamabad: JUI Chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman attended the 3rd Joint Consultative Meeting (JCM) of Political Parties of Pakistan and China on #CPEC, held today in Islamabad. The event was co-chaired by the Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan and Mr. Liu Jianchao, Minister of International Department of the Communist Party of China. Maulana Fazl ur Rehman: There is a consensus in Pakistan regarding Pak-China relations. Pak-China friendship has always transcended our political differences. Pakistan attaches importance to peaceful co-existence and cooperative relations in the region and supports progress towards it. Pakistan believes in peaceful and equitable resolution of disputes. We are grateful that China has always supported Pakistan unconditionally on the Kashmir issue and Pakistan has also always supported China unconditionally on the Taiwan issue. Pak-China relations, which were mentioned by the speakers before me, is a shared vision of all of us and I am proud that JUI Pakistan and CPEC are friends and we want to make this friendship meaningful and see it beneficial for the people of both countries. The credit for the progress made in this regard also goes to the Parliament of Pakistan and the CPC when in 1995 the CPC (China) invited the Foreign Committee of the National Assembly of Pakistan and briefed us on the new economic vision. Then on behalf of Pakistan, we presented Pakistan's "Trade Via Pakistan" concept. And for seven days, we discussed this topic in every meeting continuously, and after seven days, the CPEC informed our delegation that they supported the proposal.
