Dad, There was a lot you taught me that I didn’t fully understand at the time. Your advice always sounded simple, but the older I get, the more I realize how much depth was behind it. I paid $20.34 for years of restful nights raising babies. No one wants to hear this. "Oh good luck, say bye to sleep." said everyone. A friend recommended Contented Little Baby Book. We sleep trained our kids from about eight weeks old. It's a controversy. Some say it's cruel. Others swear by it, like me. Our house with two kids 15 months apart was quiet at night. Still is. Blackout shades, sleep exact same time daily, exact feeding schedule, wake up same time. Repeat. They are still on a sleep schedule at 6 & 7 years old. Lights out 7pm. Shades up 6am. No alarms, no crank, alert, ready to roll, calm emotions. Weekends the same. When we travel they are messy, emotional, and crazy. This video was me keeping up my youngest from falling asleep. I trained her in one week.

The Dangerous Cult of 'Fasting' Influencers. Fasting has its anecdotal benefits, yes. But it is overrated. And water fasting is highly overrated. But this video featuring a Cardiologist is amusingly nonsense. There is no study from Boston (from a "University?" - how vague!) that says 7-days water fasting reduces risk of cancer (what cancer?) by 70%. And there is no proof that fasting kills cancer cells in humans. Here is what fasting does to cancers in humans. Nothing. Fasting is now become a sort of religion-like cult for wellness influencers to rake in views and engagement. From a scientific standpoint, there are no realistically good human studies to prove anything from fasting that benefits cancers. I know, I know, "autophagy" and all that. Autophagy: Autophagy is the natural, conserved degradation of the cell that removes unnecessary or dysfunctional components. Yes, its a legit term and all. But in the context of cancer reduction and fasting in humans, it sounds like "immunity boosting," another wellness fraud term. The effects of fasting on cancer cells are all based on MOUSE studies, and none explicitly translated to humans. See this paper: everything is based on cells and tissues and small animal experiments: "While research on the subject is tantalizing, there’s little clinical evidence involving humans to substantiate the claims. Studies on the potential impacts on cancer treatment from various forms of fasting or calorie restriction, including the possibility that they reduce side effects, have been limited." "Fasting may not be appropriate for malnourished individuals or those with cancer cachexia, which results in a continuing loss of skeletal muscle mass, or for people with chronic diseases. Those with diabetes need to be very careful, because of the risk of hypoglycemia." Generally there's an opportunity for new companies when there's a significant technology discontinuity. Some sort of step change in technology is what opens up an opportunity for a startup. Certainly the world didn't need another car company that made gasoline cars. There are plenty of those. But no one was doing electric cars. The reason we started Tesla and put all the effort into it was not because we thought there was this huge opportunity in electric vehicles, but actually because no one was doing electric. Everyone thought it was stupid. And the big companies thought it was dumb, and there weren't really any startups doing it. BREAKING: If you’ve followed me for a couple years, you might remember me talking about a one-lane bridge with queued traffic. The unwritten rule here is that cars take turns going one at a time. I’ve called this one of my final boss tests. No version of FSD has gotten close. Not 11, any version of 12, or 13.2. I can’t believe it, but the time has finally come. I got a good test for the first time with 14.2, and it understood the pattern! I was hovering the brake fully ready to stop it from doing the rudeness, but I forgot we are SENTIENT now. I was shouting in my car like I just won the superbowl so I had to mute audio. But holy F. Tesla cars are ALIVE. Cant believe it.
