9 hours of a national power outage in Portugal and It felt like lockdown all over again. But here are 5 things I wouldn’t have expected.👇 1/ telephone networks went down very quickly too, so there were no comms 2/ no working ATMs, so no cash 3/ major supermarkets were cash only / closed - those that stayed open killed it 4/ trains down + no phones / apps left people resorting to hitch hiking to get home 5/ only a handful of petrol stations were working so not just EVs would grind to a halt pretty quickly People began stock piling water. Cars were initially gridlocked and the police were on the streets. There was a nervous energy in the air. But there was also a kind of excitement and then a calm. People were playing on quiet streets with their kids and gathering with friends. We had a bbq and found ourselves thinking of a cards against humanity card. Is this is how it ends? Not with a bang but with a… bbq?! Good to have the lights back on! 💡⚡️

June Life Stats - 1 wife date - 4 kid dates - 2 books completed - 1 pound gained - 28/30 mornings with quiet time and Bible reading - 26/30 days with workouts - 18/30 days no alcohol - 1 meat smoke 13 day trip to Europe dominated the month. My wife and I had a lot of fun taking my oldest daughter and a friend on a senior trip to Germany, Italy, and Austria. Father’s Day was nice cooking out with my dad and family. Business had a great month with 3 closings and a bunch of new deals signing up with us. Jet’s Little League All Star team did great winning district and taking 2nd place in Regionals- ALMOST made it to state. Was fun watching him play. Lifted a lot. Ate a lot. Drank alcohol on my trip most nights cuz Europe baby. Overall pleased with the health performance despite the trip and eating/drinking a lot in Europe. Just started a 3 month cut to try to get as lean as I can before the end of September. Locked in. Business will be the big focus in July. Lots of deal activity and we’re moving to our new office HQ in Boerne. Thanks for following along if you’re reading this!

I met them many years ago when I was just a promoter driving djs around venue to venue, just to meet artists. With the hope that someday they’d know my name and play my music. Years later the same guys who treated me as one of them from the beginning brought me out to play this record in LA and continued to rinse it in their sets for months. MLP in PyTorch by hand ✍️ ~ 7 steps walkthrough below Goal: fill in every blank in the PyTorch code to build a multi-layer perceptron. 1. Given Let us start with a code template on the left and the network it is supposed to build on the right. Every blank in the code can be worked out from the picture. 2. Linear layer We count: 3 features in, 4 features out. So the weight matrix is 4 by 3. There is an extra column for the biases, which means bias = T. 3. ReLU Let us apply the activation. ReLU crosses out the negatives, so -1 becomes 0. 4. Linear layer The input size is 4, because that is what the previous layer put out. The output size is 2. A 2 by 4 weight matrix, and this time no extra column, so bias = F. 5. ReLU We cross out the negatives again. 6. Linear layer Two features in, five out. A 5 by 2 weight matrix, with a bias column, so bias = T. 7. Sigmoid Let us finish. Sigmoid squashes the raw scores (3, 0, -2, 5, -5) into probabilities between 0 and 1. You have just implemented a three-layer deep neural network by hand. ✍️ == Story == Three years ago I gave this exercise to my students, to connect the code to the math. They found it odd. Every other AI course they were taking lived inside a Jupyter notebook, and here I was handing out paper. Three years later, my colleagues are the ones rushing to move their materials to paper. The exercise has not changed. Paper still asks the one thing a notebook lets you skip: do you actually understand what the code is doing?
