WHAT DO YOU NOTICE…. SPRING BREAK… The sun was starting to dip low over Daytona Beach, Florida, turning the sky orange and gold as the last waves of the day rolled in. Spring break was in full swing. Music echoed from nearby bars, people laughed along the boardwalk, and the warm ocean breeze carried the smell of salt and sunscreen. A group of friends walked slowly down the wooden boardwalk, still sandy from the beach. The sunshine was fading, but the energy of the night was just beginning. Street performers were setting up, neon lights flickered on, and somewhere down the strip someone shouted, “This is what spring break is all about!” As the sky turned darker and the lights got brighter, the boardwalk came alive…one of those nights where it felt like anything could happen. 🌅🌴🌊

On the morning of 26 December 2004 she was on holiday with her parents, Penny and Colin, and her seven-year-old sister Holly, walking along Maikhao Beach in Phuket. It was their first big family trip abroad, a Christmas treat, and the morning looked completely ordinary. Then Tilly noticed the water. The tide was not going in and out the way it should. It kept rushing in, further and further, and the surface had turned to a strange froth, like the foam sizzling in a frying pan. To everyone else on the beach it was just an odd-looking morning. To Tilly it set off an alarm, because she had seen those exact two signs before. About two weeks earlier, her geography teacher, a man named Andrew Kearney, had shown her class a video of a tsunami that hit Hawaii in 1946, and had explained the warning signs that come right before the wave. The receding water and the frothing sea were the two things she remembered most. She started telling her parents they had to get off the beach, that a tsunami was coming. Just saw The Wizard of Oz at Sphere and it lives up to the hype. Absolutely unreal. Multiple rounds of applause in the middle of the movie. Kids screaming like we were on a roller coaster. Picture is only surpassed by the sound. Seriously insane. Do not understand the people saying it was nothing special. They can’t have a pulse. Before the show started the concession stand staff said they’ve seen it 50 times now, and still think it’s the greatest thing ever. When the lights came on, everybody in the place was smiling and clapping. If you have kids you gotta take them. I really hope reworking classic movies for the sphere becomes a trend because it was a lot of fun. (These videos do no justice. There’s real wind blasting us and leaves flying everywhere and your seats shaking. It’s crazy. The sound can’t be described in words)
