Bill Maher explains what Iranian men do to avoid the death penalty for being gay MAHER: "You know in some countries, you can be put to death for it." AMINI: "Iran. Yeah. Iran, you're allowed to be a trans." MAHER: "Correct. And that's why they have a big trans...

Dr. Debra Soh says when you see marriages in which women actually make more money than their husbands, there's a higher chance of divorce. There are all these other awful things that are associated with it that I discuss in the book. Yeah, like and there's more... Bill Maher: But that must be more and more common. Dr. Debra Soh: Cheating on the male part. Yeah, no, it's becoming more common. One in seven marriages are actually women are primary breadwinners now. Bill Maher: And also they're kicking ass in college in a way men aren't. Men have checked out. Dr. Debra Soh: Yeah. Bill Maher: You know, there's... you talk about... what's the word? I don't know, for like marrying up? Dr. Debra Soh: Hypergamy. Bill Maher: Exactly. I was testing you. Bill Maher: Um, hypergamy, which is the the square root of the hypotenuse, by the way, for kids who are watching this doing their geometry homework. No, hypergamy is um involved here because um the more men check out as far as academia... Dr. Debra Soh: Yeah, graduate school. Bill Maher: They graduate much less much fewer men now. Dr. Debra Soh: Yeah. Bill Maher: I mean, men are the ones who need affirmative action now in in in college. Dr. Debra Soh: Mm-hmm. Bill Maher: I mean, women can't find guys to marry up to. Dr. Debra Soh: Exactly. Bill Maher: Uh, there's a stat that we keep called "the unemployed," but the definition of unemployed is you don't have a job, but you're looking for one. There's another stat, which has I don't remember the number, but it's an astoundingly high number, like 7 million... Dr. Debra Soh: Yeah. Bill Maher: ...that's not unemployed. It's not working and not looking. Dr. Debra Soh: Right.

“Ana Kasparian and Bill Maher Clash Over Whether Israel’s War in Gaza Is Creating More Extremism” Ana Kasparian: You want to talk about a little bit of truth? I can exhilarate you. Bill Maher: I know you're going to say genocide, and I'm going to say you don't know what the word means. Ana Kasparian: I'm Armenian. I know what the word means. Bill Maher: It's when you try to wipe out an entire population of people, which they didn't come close to doing. They prosecuted a war in which they were attacked. Ana Kasparian: If they were literally going after Hamas, that is legitimate. But that's not what's happening. Bill Maher: Hamas hides in tunnels underneath hospitals. Hamas is the bad guy. Ana Kasparian: What Hamas did on October 7th was disgusting. I don't hold back on that. But when the IDF's own data indicates that 83% of the people they've killed are civilians... Bill Maher: Because they hide behind them. Ana Kasparian: But Bill, do you understand that by killing so many civilians, they are essentially multiplying extremism? Bill Maher: I do understand that. But very often in war, you have two very bad choices. You don't have the good choice. You have the bad choice and the even worse choice. Ana Kasparian: Civilians get killed in wars. Everyone knows that. But there has to be a distinction. Let's say our country was occupied by Mexico. They decide to leave, but they control the electricity, what goes in, what comes out... Bill Maher: Because they were attacking them! Ana Kasparian: Israel has nuclear weapons. They have the world's military superpower backing them! Bill Maher: They have nuclear weapons, which they don't use. If Hamas had a nuclear weapon, how many seconds would it take before they used it on Israel? Ana Kasparian: I have no idea.

“Bill Maher and Rula Jebreal's Debate on Islam Took a Heated Turn Live on Air.” Rula Jebreal: Would you accept an openly anti-Semitic person to give a commencement speech to Jewish students? I actually would not. Bill Maher: Even Reza Aslan says I'm not a bigot, so I resent the idea that I'm comparable to an anti-Semite. All I've ever done is read facts. Rula Jebreal: What facts? You never invited... I'm sorry, Bill. You're comparing Jihadists, Salafists, Sunnis... You don't know the difference. You're putting all Muslims into one bucket, including secular Muslims. And when you talk about them that way, Bill, it's offensive. Bill Maher: But it's okay to be offensive. Speaker: That's what free speech is all about. If free speech is only speech you like, it's not free speech. Rula Jebreal: He was invited to give a commencement speech, not a debate. If you want a debate, I'll gladly join you anywhere. Speaker: He was invited to be a commencement speaker, and then people didn't like what he said. Bill Maher: Can you be gay in Gaza? And live? Rula Jebreal: Yes, you can. Absolutely. You're comparing the majority of Muslim countries to places like Saudi Arabia. Bill Maher: Is there a gay bar in Gaza? Rula Jebreal: I travel the Middle East. This is what I do for a living. You're comparing all Muslim societies as if they're the same. Gen. Wesley Clark: I think this is really about whether someone can be invited to give a speech. People may agree or disagree, but that's the American system. People should be allowed to speak. Rula Jebreal: The Muslim community in this country is being treated like a fifth column, and they're not. They feel threatened, they're underrepresented in the media and politics, and you never invite them here to discuss these issues. Bill Maher: Never invite them? You're here. Reza is here. They're here all the time. Rula Jebreal: On these issues. Bill Maher: Every time I say something you don't like, suddenly it's not a serious conversation or I'm a bigot. That doesn't work for me. Rula Jebreal: I don't want a war on Islam. I want to win the war on terror. But when you repeat the same things Al-Qaeda used to say—that this is a war on Islam—you're doing their work for them. My father was Muslim. He was Sufi. You don't even know the difference between Sufi, Sunni Shafi'i, or Sunni Hanbali. Bill Maher: Yeah, I do. Rula Jebreal: For you, we're all Jihadists. Bill Maher: I know that in many places around the world, if you left your religion, there would be consequences. Would it be okay for someone to say, "You know what? I'm a Presbyterian today?"

“Ana Kasparian Challenges Bill Maher Over Israel’s Expansionist Policy” Bill Maher: If Hamas had a nuclear weapon, how many seconds would it take before they used it on Israel? Ana Kasparian: I have no idea. Bill Maher: Three. Three seconds. Because it's in their charter. Ana Kasparian: If they used a nuclear weapon against Israel, I'm pretty sure the very land that Hamas cares about would be done for. They'd be done for. Bill Maher: They would be martyrs, and that would be a good thing, because that's their death-cult view of the world. The fact that you can't see the moral difference between these two sides always amazes me. Ana Kasparian: I can't. I don't. I actually don't see the moral difference when you have Bezalel Smotrich and Ben-Gvir literally talking about exterminating the entire population of Gaza. The West Bank had nothing to do with what happened on October 7th, but they're annexing that land anyway. They're raining terror on innocent people and driving them out of their homes. Listen, I am willing to admit that what Hamas did on October 7th was a fucking atrocity. Killing innocent people Bill Maher: Oh, well, who couldn't admit that? Ana Kasparian: But you have a difficult time at least acknowledging the atrocities that have been committed against innocent civilians in Gaza. Bill Maher: Well, it depends on what you call an atrocity. All wars are going to have atrocities. Ana Kasparian: A double tap on a hospital? A double tap on a hospital, so when the first responders show up? Bill Maher: I don't know exactly what you're talking about. That's an old terrorist trick. That's what they do all the time. Ana Kasparian: Are you at least going to acknowledge that the IDF doing that was wrong? Bill Maher: Yeah, I'm sure they have committed what we would call war crimes, as every army does in every war. Ana Kasparian: Right, including our own? Bill Maher: In every war. But would you also then say, “We don't know who the good guys were in that war?” No. I think the North were still the good guys. They were fighting against slavery, as Israel is fighting to survive. Ana Kasparian: I totally disagree with you on this, entirely. I think much of the problems we have in the Middle East is due to the enabling of this expansionist policy. If Israel wasn't trying to continue expanding in the Middle East, I don't think they would be dealing with the enemies that they're dealing with. Bill Maher: They've never been trying to expand. Ana Kasparian: They're trying to annex the West Bank right now, and Lebanon, Southern Lebanon, and Syria, which they've succeeded in. Bill Maher: These are all places that they were attacked from. When they became a country in 1947, they said, “Okay, we will accept half a loaf.” They had as much right to that land as anybody. There was a continual presence there since 1000 BC when King David had a kingdom Ana Kasparian: I don't care about that at all. You can't wipe out innocent people because you used to live there centuries ago. Bill Maher: But you're calling them colonizers. They're not colonizers. Ana Kasparian: They're expanding.

Bill Maher Tells Mike Tyson what he Doesn't like about Islam. Bill Maher: “You’re a Muslim. Is the whole family Muslim?” Mike Tyson: “It’s my wife and my kids. They have to choose what they want to be.” Bill Maher: “And you’re okay with that?” Mike Tyson: “Absolutely.” Bill Maher: “That is not a point of view that’s even allowed in many Muslim countries around the world. There is one religion, it is Islam, and they’re not big on, ‘Hey, you know what? Let’s agree to disagree.’” Mike Tyson: “But listen, I’m not Allah.” Bill Maher: “I know. I’m just saying that’s something you’re allowed to do here as an American Muslim.” Mike Tyson: “I learned from experience. I’m not going to stop that growth from something that my growth is extending with. I’ve grown with it, but that’s not their growth.” Bill Maher: “I’m just pointing out that this enlightened point of view is not found uniformly around the world.” Mike Tyson: “You’d be surprised how many Muslims want to come in that think the way we think.” Bill Maher: “I’m not surprised. And women who don’t want to wear the you know, whatever the thing that looks like a cover of a motorboat.” Mike Tyson: “Well, some people are more modest. I wish I had the dignity to be that modest.” Bill Maher: “Modest? Why do you say that?” Mike Tyson: “Because they believe in covering themselves, and I’m like, you said I gotta be I don’t have much money. I gotta be in this cheap-ass plane with all these people and talking to these people.” Bill Maher: “One thing is modesty. Completely covering a woman so you don’t see any of her is different. This isn’t modest. That’s pathological.” Mike Tyson: “Suppose she’s happy with that.” Bill Maher: “She’s not. Oh my God, she’s not happy with it. I mean, you can brainwash someone into liking anything.”

Bill Maher Challenges Charlie Rose: “Islam Is Not Like Other Religions” Bill Maher: I think liberals should stop booing me for pointing out that Islam is not like other religions, that it is a unique threat. Charlie Rose: But it's not Islam you're against. Bill Maher: Howard Dean said, “The people in ISIS... I'm about as Islamic as they are,” distancing the vast numbers of Muslims around the world from it. That's just not true. Charlie Rose: It is true. Bill Maher: It is not true, Charlie. There is a connecting tissue between Charlie Rose: You mean behind every Muslim is a future member of some radical Bill Maher: Let me finish. There are illiberal beliefs held by vast numbers of Muslims that I don't think have Charlie Rose: Vast numbers of Christians, too. Bill Maher: No, that's not true. Vast numbers of Christians don't believe that if you leave Christianity, you should be killed. They don't treat women as second-class citizens, and they don't believe drawing Jesus should get you killed. Does ISIS kill people indiscriminately who aren't like them? Yes. Would most Muslims do that or condone it? No. But most Muslims in the world do condone violence just for what you think. Charlie Rose: How do you know that? Bill Maher: First of all, they say it. There's a Pew poll of Egypt where 82% said stoning was the appropriate punishment for adultery, and over 80% thought death was appropriate for leaving Islam. So to claim this religion is like other religions is naive and wrong. Saudi Arabia has also beheaded people for nonviolent crimes, including homosexuality. Charlie Rose: They even cut the hands off a thief. Bill Maher: Right. We're upset when ISIS beheads people, as we should be, but Saudi Arabia does it too, and they're our friends because they have oil. This is the centre of the religion. In Mecca, non-Muslims aren't even allowed into the holy part of the city. If people were being beheaded in Vatican City, don't you think there'd be a bigger outcry? This is the soft bigotry of low expectations. When Muslim people do or believe things we consider extreme, it's somehow not discussed nearly as much. Charlie Rose: I don't believe what we see with ISIS represents Islam. I don't think the Quran teaches them to do this. Bill Maher: Well, you're wrong about that. The Quran absolutely has horrible things about how infidels should be treated. And can we really say women are treated equally in the Muslim world? Their testimony in court is often counted as half. They may need permission to leave the house, and women are forced to wear burqas. And I hear liberals say, “Well, they want to.” They've been brainwashed.

“Bill Maher Says Islam Is “The Mother Lode of Bad Ideas” and Fareed Zakaria Fires Back” Bill Maher: Which gets us back to my idea of Islam is the mother lode of bad ideas. Fareed? Fareed Zakaria: I've written a lot about the problems in Islam. My problem with the way you approach it is, I don't think you're going to reform a religion by telling 1.6 billion people, “Your religion is the mother lode of bad ideas. It's a terrible thing. Shape it up and change it.” If you really want to change that religion, then what you have to do is push for reform, but also with some sense of respect for the spiritual values that people take. If you tell everybody, “You suck, your religion sucks, clean it up,” they're going to get their backs up. Bill Maher: Let's say there's a social club that believes women are second-class citizens, gay people should be put to death, you should be put to death... Fareed Zakaria: But that's not all 1.6 billion people. Because if they felt that way, you'd have a lot more than a few terrorists out there. In that same Pew survey that you quote every time, 99% of Muslims in the world say that it is not a widespread belief that death is the appropriate response to... You go to Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world, and they have lived happily with minorities. Women are given respect. Yes, is it as advanced as the West? No. But you don't have a huge problem with jihad there. The biggest problems you have are in pathologically dysfunctional Arab societies which have had 40 or 50 years of repressive dictatorships. I have always said there is the word I've used is , there is a cancer within Islam. Our difference is, how are you going to fix it? Bill Maher: Well, first with honesty... Fareed Zakaria: You're not persuading people with what you're doing. You're getting applause lines in the West. Bill Maher: That's insulting. That I'm doing this for applause lines. Fareed Zakaria: What I'm telling you, the reality is you're not changing those people.
