Did you know there might be a second language on the Book of Mormon gold plates? Most Latter-day Saints have heard that the plates were written in Reformed Egyptian, but not as many people realize that the Book of Mormon started as essentially a different language first. And the relationship between these two languages, I believe, supports the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. What the Nephite language started as, is described in the first chapter of the book of Mormon as "the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians." Scholars have theorized that this first language could contain a mix of Hebrew and Egyptian features. So the Book of Mormon writing may have started out looking something like this, a Judahite variety of Egyptian known as Palestinian Hieratic that is attested in Lehi and Nephi’s day. But languages don’t stay static. After hundreds of years, it seems this earlier Egyptian language evolved into a modified, or Reformed Egyptian, as Moroni calls it at the end of the book. So maybe something like this. Since the writings of Nephi and Mormon both appear to be included on plates that became the Book of Mormon, one would expect their languages to look different. And Martin Harris’s visit to Professor Charles Anthon may show evidence of this shift. New research reveals Anthon may have seen two different transcripts: one that resembled Egyptian—like at the beginning of the Book of Mormon— and another that was harder to identify, just like we’d expect from an evolving, reformed language. Language changing over time is totally natural—just look at how different English was a few hundred years ago! To all these Protestants who claim you are former Catholics, and you say that the Catholic Church taught you not to read the Bible or that you should stay away from the Bible, and that you can't understand it, only the Church can, quit creating calumny and falsehoods. I have literally walked into Mass and they have Bibles out in stands. You can literally contact your diocese and they'll mail you a Bible, as well as the Catechism. I know because I've done it. Vatican II, even the Catechism of the Catholic Church, requires Christians to read the Bible, so just stop with the calumny. There are a lot of things I disagree with in the Catholic Church, but this is not one of them. So stop lying. The Catholic Church teaches to read the Bible. They have study Bibles. Here’s my review after reading the Gospel of Thomas 😊 Background: Gospel of Thomas is one of the books found by farmers in old clay jars in Egypt in 1945. When the ancient Coptic writing style was compared to writing styles over the years, experts determined the book was likely written between the years 100 and 200 CE. Over the centuries, ancient Christians had quoted Gospel of Thomas here and there, but a full copy of the book had been lost until the 1945 discovery. The book is said to have been written by Doubting Thomas, the disciple of Jesus. Of course the copy found in Egypt was likely translated from Thomas’ original writing some years after he wrote it. After reading it myself, I was shocked to find how very many of the sayings are in the Bible. It is a book of parables only, not the full story of Jesus. Some of the parables in Thomas are not in the Bible. I’ve heard from Christians who are scared to read something about Jesus that’s not in the Bible. When I hear that, I always think of the last verse of the Book of John which says: “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” So John makes clear that Jesus’ whole story is not in the Bible. How delightful, after telling God I’d love to learn more of Jesus’ story, that I come across these sayings.😊🙏🏼 What’s your take?

I read, every day I read about a new person in some Colorado and Wisconsin, somebody who is saying some variation of not defund the police- abolish the police. No prisons, no police, like what world do they think we could possibly live in under these conditions? Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that "Kedar" inhabits; let the habitants of "Sela" sing for joy, let them shout from the top of the mountains._ And check Isaiah 29:12 "The book given to one who cannot read" - " Isaiah 29:12 "Isaiah 29:11-12' _11. And the vision of all this has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.”_ _12. On Friday, Bill Maher asked me if what happened with Biden at the disastrous debate with Trump was the same story as the Emperor's New Clothes. Me: The story of the Emperor's New Clothes is a story about common knowledge, because when the kid blurted it out, he actually wasn't telling anyone anything they didn't already know. They could see the Emperor was naked. But he still changed their knowledge, because by blurting it out with an earshot of the others, now everyone knew that everyone else knew that everyone else knew that everyone else knew. And what that allowed them to do is change their relationship with the Emperor, from obsequious deference to ridicule and scorn. And the thing about common knowledge in the social realm is that it's what props up our social relationships. And so when something is blurted out, then it can change everything. It changes the nature of your relationship with someone. Maher: And we do have sort of a modern version of the Emperor parable, which is Joe Biden. I mean, he was the Emperor who everyone wouldn't say had lost his marbles. I mean, is that not really the same story? Me: It is the same story, because opinion polls showed that after that disastrous debate with Trump, the number of people who thought that he was cognitively impaired didn't go up by that much. It went up by a few percentage points. But before, a majority of people thought that he was cognitively impaired. The difference is, when it's on TV, where you're watching it, you know that the rest of the country is watching it, you know the rest of the country knows the rest of the country, it's no longer private.
