Bill Monroe made ‘Going Down This Road Feeling Bad’ a staple in his repertoire, popularizing it within the bluegrass community. Here are Roy Clark and blues multi-instrumentalist Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown performing the song on the comedy/musical variety show 'Hee Haw' in 1979.

They did an album together. Worth tracking down.

I loved the “Picking and Grinning” segments on Hee Haw. (Corny jokes and pretty girls too, but that’s a different subject.)

Lot of talented musicians starring and guest starring in that show.

My brother Rob used to play banjo with a Michigan group called "Roy McGinnis and The Sunny Siders." Used to go to a bunch of festivals and got to meet Bill a couple of times. Really nice guy. The best music you'd find at those festivals was not on stage. It was the guys who didn't work together sitting around various campers jamming. And they didn't care who you were. If you wanted to play, you were likely to get to play with the greats.

How underrated is Roy Clark! He could play just about anything he wanted to.

GDTRFB was a Grateful Dead mainstay. The best live versions were during the Donna "Donna Jean" Godchaux era.

I saw Gatemouth in the early 90’s at a little bar in Delaware. He was such a great showman!
