RIP. I interviewed him for Crawdaddy at his Portland home in 1975 when he was in his prime with the Trail Blazers. He was taking a lot of abuse at the time for his nonconformist lifestyle & beliefs, but he was one of the nicest people I met during my years as a sports writer.

“More fascinating than those time outs. More fascinating than that foul.” 🤣 Awesome.

Thomas Welch never really blossomed into what we thought he’d be at Loyola HS. I’m from Oklahoma. And I know this because Bill Walton was must watch television.

@GrantBrisbee One of my favorite things to do is look at the ticker while listening to clips like this. Highlights of this 1 is “Packers release AJ Hawk” and “Lions release Reggie Bush” followed by a section titled “Hernandez”. Yet when it comes to Bill Walton, he’s always the same goofy guy

I was sure he’d be with us forever-or at least as long as we’ve had Hubie Brown. Total gut punch when I saw the news. RIP to a great player, commentator, and the biggest Deadhead ever.
