It took me 40+ years of playing before something switched in my brain and that picking pattern fell into place a couple of years ago. I'm still nowhere near as melodic as Billy's left-hand shapes.

I really want to figure out how to play this song with just picking while keeping all the same frills as Billy's hybrid style here. My hybrid picking is too weak. Chris Thile is fine example of someone getting a lot done with just a pick in this song.
