Keep up all the great reading, man! #Steinbeck is also a favorite of mine and I’ve been collecting his @PenguinClassics black spines for a while now. I love the covers so much I reached out to the illustrator and he sent me four prints!

Those are phenomenal reads. If I may suggest 4 books for you: 1) Hunger by Knut Hamsun 2) Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski 3) Less than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis 4) The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster

For a very long time I have given The Stranger to numerous 14-year-olds. At 16 they get Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

If you are going to read one book by Cormac McCarthy, I would recommend Blood Meridian.

Not bad choices, kid. Tale of two cities,alchemist,of mice & men. Dostoevsky is outside of ur knowledge of political/societal entanglements Instead of Dostoevsky start with animal farm/moby dick & ART OF WAR Dont forget science Stephen hawking & George smoot & carl sagan

good lad. The Road is one I re-read regularly as it is one of the bleakest and most hopeful of McCarthy's works (imo). every time I write the memory of it surfaces and reminds me 'you will never write anything as good as this'. the others are all worthy reads.

I'm rarely tearful, but The Stranger made me cry. Really touched a nerve, and that was because of the way it deals with grief in an unsentimental way. Strange, I know.

If he is part of a new trend to rediscover the classic literature I am all of a sudden more optimistic about future. I hope he enjoys Tale of Two Cities

Don’t be afraid of The Road. It’s an intense but beautiful book. Cormac McCarthy will blow your mind, in a good way.

These are all great! May I make suggestions for the future. If you want to read Dickens read Bleak House, and my favorite Steinbeck is Cannery Row. Any and all Russians. Make sure you read A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch by Solzhenitsyn. Also grow your collection of Dumas

nice to see. that's a good haul. some will b quick reads, but all r pretty easily enjoyed. i like shopping used books more than new, kind of an adventure & u usually find what you'r looking for. sometimes find sweet old hardcover prints at a great deal.
