Go ahead and tell an Argentinian or Venezuelan or Turk who has experienced hyperinflation that bitcoin is useless or only used for crime. Tell that to multiple Afghan entrepreneurs I’ve had on my show who talked about how bitcoin enabled them to pay the women on their micro-blogging platform who would have any salary paid to a bank account confiscated by male relatives or who didn’t even have a bank account. Or how it helped them get money in Afghanistan after Western Union shut down. I used to admire New Scientist. Now I see that you don’t approach your work with an open mind or curiosity. You pre-judge it based on your elite position in the word, mocking anything that doesn’t have relevance to your life. How nice it is, yes, be to be born into a country whose currency is the global reserve currency of the world. I was born into the same financial privilege. I’m just grateful that I’ve had enough life experience to know that it is a privilege granted not by merit but by an incredibly unfair lottery and Bitcoin helps address that inequality.

Why did the producers of this show pick someone to talk about bitcoin who clearly has no idea what she’s talking about?

Bitcoin uses energy no one else can use and strengthens fragile grids by acting as adjustable load. It’s also rapidly becoming the only neutral, trustless collateral in a system drowning in leverage. This isn’t a disaster. It’s an upgrade. Study it. Your wrong.

I don't know who this "scientist" is, but these are absolute garbage opinions that have been debunked over and over. Bitcoin mining consumes energy that would otherwise be curtailed or wasted. Other energy is to expensive to run miners profitably.

If you’re going to say, Bitcoin is bad for the environment, then you should’ve left out crime on the dark web, it discredits your argument I would also recommend you looking into El Salvador, using geothermal energy from volcanoes to mind bitcoin which is natural energy
