@Ableton PLEASE fix this! It's getting so annoying and don't say contact the customer service!!!

it's what happens when you tie your audio engine to the UI

i suppose :(

Thank you for talking about it, I've been getting this kind of slowdown with even just 60-70 (heavily loaded) tracks. From my experience even duplicating/loading effects inside tracks can get slow too after a while. I'm not holding my breath for them to do something though.

The problem with bitwig is precision though, everything in the macro and mapping system maps to percent so it’s good luck doing precise edits without opening plugin UIs to. Ableton is intelligent enough to surface the destination mapping all the way through their layers.

i don't mind that personally! i usually look at ui while automating anyways, i'd much rather trade that with the software not getting in the way of finishing tunes!

For me the friction made it difficult for me to make the swap but I also want to!

conspiracy theory : it's built for "live" and the audio quality degrades once you add that 200 tracks too i have no proof but it feels that it prioritizes "keeping the music going in a live scenario" over everything could be a cool deep dive

I'm always in fear that I pass 100 channels in Ableton, I know workflow will get 400% slower no matter what I'm using

Ohh its even worse when theres actual content , literal slideshow, it freezes then i click on somewhere now it has 2 moves to do after adding a track so it crashes , you need constant prayer when working with ableton and then the fucking Latancy issues my gord it sucks

@Ableton this is driving me insane. Big .ALPs lag so bad it makes me wanna smash my screen cuz of how retarded it behaves sometimes. It kills the vibe and drains the soul out of producing. I love Ableton, but please fix the damn engine we just wanna make music, not fight the DAW.

Fortunately most of my finished project stay below ~80 tracks. I haven't experienced these kinds of problems, and have found myself missing some Ableton stock plugins when trying out Bitwig (and it's UI). I'm curious what you're gonna miss about Ableton!

not much! i use mostly @kilohearts plugins :)

Yup this was a significant contributor to me switching to bitwig

Thank you for bringing more light to this. It's been driving me nuts for years. I'm pretty sure 12 is my last version of Ableton unless they fix this in 13. @Ableton

Another great positive of bitwig is, you can run it on Linux! With VSTs! And even better, it's much more cpu efficient on linux as well. But wait there's more! with Linux's 'Real time kernel" theres even more performance and stability benefits. you can hit 99.99% CPU use and still experience zero audio glitches. Whereas Fl studio or ableton would choke around 40% Cpu

In your teasing how does adding more fx/channels impact recording latency in bitwig? My biggest gripe with Ableton is you basically need a fresh project with zero plugins to get good latency and if I have an idea fleshed out already it makes it hard to record

Profilbild von Nasko
Naskovor 1 Jahr

that likely won't be much different due to the nature of latency compensation in daws!

This and timeline PDC not working correctly are the two biggest issues with ableton for me and I’ve really been considering moving to bitwig as well. It’s insanely frustrating.

Bitwig has looked very interesting to me but I get a bad taste in my mouth when I remember the drama.

don't forget that bitwig creators are old ableton creators so yeah they try to make they software better than the ableton that they worked on!

That's why I switched to Bitwig 3 years ago. Ableton became a bloat of a software. Also, Bitwig makes sense for sound designers.

tried switching to reaper cuz of that but damn... It's definitely a process and a half x.x might give bitwig a shot... Also nice to see confirmation it's an actual issue and not just me imagining it or something lmao

Can we also please talk about how awfully painful it is trying to export stems in ableton. I was exporting ~30 stem tracks for a collab and it took me 2-3 hours to render them all
