Part 4: Roughly 13 minutes after ASU ran what was thought to be the final play of the game, the field is cleared. BYU gets the ball at the 49 with one second left. QB Jake Retzlaff actually completes the pass to receiver Chase Roberts, but short of the end zone. ASU wins.

All of that is almost certainly avoided if ASU doesn't do this. Facing a 2nd-and-goal from the 3 with a chance to go up at least 11 points, ASU opts to have QB Sam Leavitt run backwards, losing 29 yards. He then ran backwards again on third down, losing 10.

You left out that ASU had 2nd and goal at the four and chose to run backwards in a feeble attempt to run out the clock rather than go forward and win the game.
