These comments must be seen in the context of the core issue of the repatriation of illegal Bangladeshis from India. This obviously requires cooperation from Bangladesh. Over 2,860 cases of nationality verification are pending with Bangladesh, and several of them have been pending for over five years... When asked whether undocumented individuals suspected to be of Bangladeshi origin are handed over to Bangladesh through proper channels, the BJP leader from the northern region and Chief Minister Sarma said it’s difficult to go through Randhir Jaiswal. So, they wait until nightfall and push them back under the cover of darkness, when no border guard personnel are present. The Centre has already allotted funds and work orders for these stretches but fencing cannot begin until the state government hands over land for acquisition. The Calcutta High Court has now treated this as a national security issue and given the state a final seven day deadline to submit its report. If the state says BSF can simply guard the open areas, the numbers show the ground reality. A minimum of one jawan is needed for every 100 metres. For 600 km that means 6,000 personnel at any given time and in two shifts this becomes 12,000 personnel. This alone would consume over four percent of the entire BSF force. Fencing is the only long term and sustainable solution for securing Bharat’s borders.

I commend senior BJP MP from Ranaghat; Shri Jagannath Sarkar, for his animated & courageous speech on the floor of the Parliament regarding the plight of the Bengali Hindu Community on both sides of the India-Bangladesh Border. The persecuted Bengali Hindu Community in Bangladesh, who have to face existential crisis every few years, are in utter distress. There is no sign of abatement in the atrocities, which they are being subjected to. Even the Judiciary have failed them. On this side of the Border, the demographic balance have been altered by the current State Govt by providing a congenial ecosystem that shelters the infiltrators. This has resulted in disturbing the peace and harmony of the society. Continuous vandalism of Hindu Temples and nuisance in Hindu religious events in WB is the result of this appeasement and vote bank politics of the ruling party of WB.
