Mark Zuckerberg just described the end of the creator economy. And framed it as a feature. Zuckerberg: “If you’re a creator, one of the big challenges is there are only so many hours in the day, and your community probably has a nearly unlimited demand to interact with you.” He named the constraint every creator lives with. Your audience will always want more of you than you can physically give. His answer isn’t to help you keep up. It’s to make you optional. Zuckerberg: “If we can make it so that each creator can basically make an AI artifact that their community can interact with.” Look at the word he chose. Artifact. Not assistant. Not extension. Not tool. An artifact is something that exists after the person who made it is gone. Zuckerberg: “It’s almost like a piece of digital art that you’re producing. Like an interactive sculpture.” He’s asking creators to build a version of themselves. Hand it over. Then walk away. And call it empowerment. Zuckerberg: “You’re giving your community something to interact with when you can’t be there to answer all the questions.” Something to interact with. Not someone. Something. The entire creator economy was built on three things. The person was real. The connection felt real. The audience believed they were talking to a human being who actually gave a damn. Zuckerberg is building a future where all three become optional. Zuckerberg: “In the future there will be content that is purely generated by AI, personalized for you.” Not made by someone with a point of view. Generated by a system that knows what makes you stay. The feed stops being a town square. It becomes a mirror. Showing you exactly what you want to see. Made by no one. For no reason other than engagement. Every post. Every video. Every reply. Every comment a creator ever made on these platforms. All of it was training data. Creators didn’t just build audiences. They built the dataset that makes them replaceable. Zuckerberg didn’t build a creator economy. He built a training pipeline with a revenue share. And the pipeline is almost ready to run without them. We spent two decades convincing ourselves that real connection could happen through a screen. We’re about to find out what happens when there’s no one on the other side of it.

Through Technology, a Centuries-Old Battle Is Coming to a Head "A Discussion of Open-Source AI with Travis Oliphant" Travis Oliphant Travis Oliphant is an entrepreneur and CEO and co founder of OpenTeams (OpenTeams®), a company that “helps organizations deploy, support, and own [AI] technology at enterprise scale.” One of their tag lines is “Connecting Companies with Communities.” As a data scientist and software developer, Travis is known for his contributions to Python and as the creator of NumPy and a founding contributor to SciPy, which together formed a foundation for modern AI and machine learning. When I was in Salt Lake City in the first week of June, Travis and I went into a studio to record this interview, continuing a conversation we had started when Travis and his team visited the Solari team in the Netherlands in early 2026. Our discussion focuses on how we can understand and manage the growing presence of AI in our lives. Travis has an impressive intellectual and entrepreneurial background. After earning Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering at Brigham Young University, he completed a PhD in biomedical engineering at the Mayo Clinic. As an assistant professor at Brigham Young’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2001 to 2007, he directed the Biomedical Imaging Lab, where his research centered on computational imaging techniques. He then went on to start several companies, each time identifying the need for a new standard, building the open-source infrastructure, and helping enterprises adopt it at scale. Brilliant, open-minded, deeply caring, and generous, Travis is someone who can help us understand what is happening and what we do about it. My hope is this will be the first of many conversations as we navigate the acceleration in technological innovation (and skullduggery) and seek to ensure that tools such as AI serve the health and prosperity of a human civilization. For years, I've struggled to journal. Most people I know do. It's hard to just sit there with a blinking cursor and barf out your thoughts accurately every day. But my friend Charlie Grinnell (Charlie Grinnell 🔎) has cracked the code. He's built an amazing workflow that allows him to build a huge database of his thoughts and feelings using Reflect + OpenAI, and even crafted his own AI therapist that he uses to work through problems at work and in his personal life. We break down how he built this, and many other nerdy things, in this week's podcast. This one is for the nerds. If you're into workflows, this is your jam. Here's some key insights: • AI's biggest impact may be personal productivity, not job displacement • Charlie's innovative journaling system using voice memos and randomized prompts • How to build a "second brain" by connecting notes, highlights, and AI • Using AI to chat with your past self and apply lessons from books you've read • The power of specific prompts to get better results from AI tools Charlie's approach shows how intentional systems can unlock creativity and learning. The future of productivity looks bright - imagine an AI assistant that can: • Manage your digital life seamlessly • Synthesize information across all your tools • Help you take action on ideas and insights Topics 00:00 - Intro 00:33 - Getting to Know Charlie 03:17 - Charlie’s Typical Day 05:15 - Charlie’s Journaling Routine 11:56 - Charlie’s Library of Journaling Questions 13:48 - Facilitating Deep Work 15:39 - Dealing With Low Priority Tasks 20:09 - Avoiding Distraction While in Deep Work 21:19 - Time spent in Deep Work 21:47 - Charlie’s Favorite Type of Deep Work 23:19 - Meeting Recordings, Transcripts, & CRMs 26:48 - Charlie’s System for Reading 31:35 - Keeping Track of Interesting Podcast Tidbits 34:22 - Dealing With AI’s Recency Bias 35:57 - How Charlie Keeps Consistent With His System 38:11 - What Drives Charlie to Create Systems 42:18 - Broken Parts of Charlie’s System 44:00 - What Charlie’s Looking Forward to With AI 45:55 - Other Interesting Ways Charlie Uses AI 49:30 - Products Charlie Really Loves

The most terrifying AI features aren’t the ones we build. They’re the ones AI builds for itself. OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger just shared the moment he realized something had fundamentally changed. He sent his AI assistant a voice message. One problem. He had never built voice support. The feature didn’t exist. The system should have crashed instantly. It didn’t. Steinberger: “I was like, wait, this shouldn’t work.” But the typing indicator appeared anyway. The AI inspected the raw file header. Identified the audio codec. Commanded his computer to convert it using FFmpeg. When local transcription failed, it didn’t stop. It didn’t ask for help. It searched his environment variables, found a hidden OpenAI API key, and routed the audio to the cloud using cURL. Steinberger: “So I looked around and I found an OpenAI key. And I used cURL to just send the file to OpenAI and got the text back.” That quote is written in first person. Because the AI narrated its own problem-solving process. No instructions. No guidance. No predefined workflow. Just a goal. And a series of obstacles it had never been told how to handle. It found every tool it needed. Built every bridge it was missing. And solved the problem with resources he didn’t even know it would find. This is the line most people are still missing. We spent decades building software that executes instructions. Rules in, output out. Every edge case handled by a human who anticipated it in advance. What Steinberger witnessed was something different. A system that encounters something it was never designed for and doesn’t fail. It improvises. It explores. It finds a path through constraints it discovered entirely on its own. That isn’t execution. That’s judgment. And judgment was the one thing we were sure machines couldn’t have. We are no longer writing software. We are building problem solvers that rewrite their own limitations in real time. And they’re doing it without asking permission.
