Blade Runner 2049 flopping still hurts…a visual masterpiece with soul, scale, and sci-fi ambition we rarely see. Some movies are just too good for the moment they’re in.

If this movie hadn’t happened we wouldn’t have the Dune movies the way we have them today. This was the final puzzle piece that Denis had to figure out. When you look at all his prior movies, it’s easy to see parts of each of them in the Dune series. Every frame of this movie is a painting.

“A wildly ambitious masterpiece of speculative fiction that fires on all cylinders. Highly recommended for readers looking for a thrilling yet cerebral experience that pushes the boundaries of the genre and the mind itself. A bold, visionary triumph.” –Hidden Sci-Fi

Blade Runner flopped as well. They are both great films

I love both Blade Runner films, but 2049 was too subtle in the direction and too brutalistic in its visuals. The 1982 original, though dystopian, was more emotive and with awe-inspiring world building.

The Blade Runner curse. Movies to smart and visually stunning for the dumbed down masses.

The visuals were amazing in 2049 - but I feel like the storyline still didn’t top the original

Blade Runner 2049 is so good, it’s arguably better than the original, which is also very very good

2049 was pointless and forgettable. I wanted to like it so bad, but it’s almost painful trying to watch more than once. Characters are 2D. Acting is terrible, especially Leto. Themes are tired. Tropes abundant. Biggest sin of all is the garbage set design and world building.

I think it is poetic that it flopped at the box office, like the original and, like the original, it has a massive cult following.
