it's the compression! i sign my halftone B&W stuff w/ a 24% opaque signature in "866 pink" that incidentally ends up creating a 4-tone "palette" across the whole pic, with black, dark & light pink, & white. when twitter scrunches it, it uses *that palette* to smooth everything
