This elderly couple is struggling with the cold weather in Gaza, and lack of support. Both the elderly and their daughter can’t walk and are wheelchair users. The Sameer Project contacted the family to check what they need and on December 17th, we visited them in Khan Younis and provided 2 mattresses, 2 blankets and a large tarp. The total cost with 9% commission was $172. Blankets and tarps are in huge demand now with the strong cold and constant rain. The next rainstorm is hitting Gaza tomorrow, on Monday, and it will last three days! Please support us in providing as much protection as possible: Over the last week, our team has been setting up tents in different parts of the Gaza Strip for homeless families and those whose tents got destroyed. The children in Gaza Camp in Deir Al Balah were barefoot, some wearing summer clothes, and all were cold. This camp gets minimal support and none of the families had anything to keep them warm for winter. Our The Sameer Project team got to work after taking the sizes of all the children at the camp, organizating a distribution of warm winter jackets, ensuring there was one for each child in need. We provided 103 jackets, each one heavy, water proof and lined, to keep them warm during the winter storms. Each one was approximately $23 and cost a total 2,290 after 9% commission. We can source blankets inside of Gaza. They are available, but they are not free aid - they have been allowed in on commercial trucks by the occupation to be sold in markets, however, families cannot afford them. With your help, The Sameer Project can purchase them and distribute them for free to entire camps and areas that are particularly vulnerable and in need. We select camps to serve that get no other support. We select the areas that are the most disenfranchised, the poorest, the most in need. We give to all these families in one area so no one is left out, no one is “selected” over the other based on who they can reach out to on the internet for advocacy on their behalf. Instead, we support all of them to ensure equity and fair access to our aid. We are these families’ advocates. Here are 60 blankets going to the Al-Mutahabeen Camp in Khan Younis. Palestinians in Gaza have been warning over and over about the winter and the rain. Yet nothing changed, the winter is here and Palestinians yet again are suffering. International pressure and direct action must not stop! We can’t stop rain but at the Sameer Project we can provide tarps that help prevent tents from leaking and blankets for warmth. The journey to getting water can be extremely long and exhausting. In temperatures as high as 30 degrees Celsius/ 86 Fahrenheit, people walk for kilometers to get water. Support: This is why the Sameer Project tries to spread the water distributions as much as possible. On August 24th, we distributed 24,000 liters in Central Gaza. 8,000 liters to Abu Shaban Camp and 8,000 liters to Asqalan camp that are both located in Deir El Balah. Yarmouk camp in Khan Younis is one of the largest and most struggling camps. The Sameer Project distributed 530 meals of rice in the Jeya street part of the camp. Support: Each meal weighs 800 grams and costs $9.15 with 10% commission. On that day 1,000 meals of rice were distributed but for Yarmouk Camp alone the total cost was $4,850. Next week our main focus will be rice meals in the South as vegetables in Gaza are decreasing due to the end of season. We are exploring the options of providing nutritious meals for mass distribution but unfortunately the options now are limited. On June 15th, we distributed diapers and formula to those who need it for $217, including 11% commission. This included 6 packs of baby diapers and 5 adult diapers and 5 formula. We have multiple solar panels in our camps but they can’t provide fans for everyone, so our medical team assessed those most in need. Yesterday our team visited a camp called Atshana (translates to thirsty) and is located right next to the Sowerky cemetery in Deir El Balah. The camp is in bad condition and don’t get aid or support, donate: The Sameer Project team distributed 147 packages with 1.5 kilos of eggplants in each bag. The cost for each bag is $29.25 so the whole distribution cost around $4,300. One meal of eggplants alone for a family costs around $30 and these vegetables are sourced from farms running under big risks. These prices don’t include cooking oil, sauces or spices. Total cost was $25,692 with 11% commission, support: The Sameer Project team gave out 2,430 meals in Souq Jdeed / Balata Camp in Nuseirat. This is the largest camp in Nuseirat with over 2,000 families. 760 were given to Asqalan Camp in Deir El Balah and the remaining to Refaat Alareer Camp in Zawayde. Mass distribution of rice continues with limited quantities allowed in through the borders. A famous chicken sandwich in Gaza named “Tailandi” is something we regularly make in The Sameer Project kitchen. On February 7th, Translating Falasteen (@translatingpa ) x The Sameer Project team distributed 675 of those sandwiches to Falasteen Shelter Center, Rimal. Help: The total cost with 11% commission was $1,261. So each sandwich costs around $1.85. Chicken and goods are coming in through the border but less than a quarter of the needed amount. Despite the suffocating siege and difficulties, The Sameer Project will continue to provide food daily with your support. Schools have turned into shelters for the displaced in Gaza and even those are often bombed, donate: Not a single place in Gaza is safe and there’s no such thing as a safe zone. 2,540 meals of rice were distributed by the Sameer Project on August 6th feeding around 7,620 people. Total cost was $14,345 with 11% commission. 600 meals were given to the school shelter in Nuseirat and surrounding camps and more meals were given to camps in Deir El Balah. The civil defense team gets their 40 daily rice meals as well. Three babies died so far in Gaza due to hypothermia in the last two nights. The Sameer Project team took immediate action to support families with newborns and thanks to your support, we distributed warm onesies and shoes to babies! Keep donating: Today (December 12th), the Sameer Project distributed 39 onesies made from wool and 39 wool shoes to newborn babies. Each family got a pamphlet and explanation on how best to protect the baby from hypothermia. This was done in the Nadi Bahri Camp that is on the beach in Gaza City and is one of the most affected camps with the storm. Total cost for onesies and shoes was $640 with 9% commission. The onesies we bought were tailormade by a small business that we love supporting called Nour Design. Please follow and support their page ❤️ The Give Warmth to Babies is under our medical campaign as we do awareness sessions with doctors & nurses.
