Pierre Coffin tells us what inspired ‘MINIONS & MONSTERS’ to bring the Minions into the world of classic monster movies and early Hollywood filmmaking: “Chris Meledandri pitches me the idea of minions wanting to make a movie, wanting to make a monster movie, and for that they need to create a monster, summon a monster, build a monster, and then obviously that monster turns against the minions, against the Earth, against the universe, and they have to save everyone and correct their mistake. And from that moment onwards, as he was pitching out the ideas, I had the whole movie in my head.”

This is how the Merged Monster movement in Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Movie came to be 🧟‍♂️ Jakub Hudlický, the production’s motion coordinator, shared the details following the film’s theatrical release. In July 2025, he brought together teams of stunt performers and circus artists to research and design how the so-called “Merged Monster” would move. Although the version that appears in theaters is CGI, the rehearsals served as a foundation: the movements explored by the performers were used as a reference to define the digital creature’s behavior and expression. Only the large monster that appears in the sewer had a practical design on set. "Not in the final movie, but the movement kinda mimics how the CGI creature moves 🤭 It was so much fun exploring it!" explained Hudlický. The team spent weeks exploring poses, movements, and dynamics to give the enemy its own personality.
