Blind Melon 🎩🪄 No Rain (1993) Shannon Hoon’s raw, soaring vocals and the band’s loose, jammy groove turn their alt-rock hit into something even more heartfelt and hypnotic A stripped-back performance that shows their true soul. #BlindMelon💫

🫶👌“No Rain” by Blind Melon dropped in 1992 on their self-titled debut album. Written mainly by guitarist Rogers Stevens, the song became iconic thanks to its upbeat melody contrasted with introspective lyrics, and of course the unforgettable “Bee Girl” music video.

One of my favorite stripped-down MTV performances from that era was Blind Melon doing “Change.” They never did Unplugged, but appeared on MTV Most Wanted. Just them, the room, and Shannon Hoon’s voice. “Change” and “No Rain” were their commercially successful tunes in contrast to “Toes Across the Floor,” which a lot of people still argue was the stronger song overall. I posted a live version yesterday. The self-titled album (Blind Melon, 1992) went on to sell over 4 million copies in the U.S. (4× platinum). “No Rain” hit No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on both the Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts. “Change” was more modest on the charts was more modest on the charts, but the song itself is about moving forward and staying optimistic. That performance really highlighted Hoon’s unique vocal abilities. “ We all can’t stay here forever so I’m going to write my words on the face of today.” “Change” Blind Melon

Blind Melon - No Rain. Blind Melon bass player Brad Smith wrote this song before he formed the band. He had moved from Mississippi to Los Angeles, where he fell into a funk. "The song is about not being able to get out of bed and find excuses to face the day when you have really, in a way, nothing." At the time, Brad was dating a girl who was going through depression (she would sleep through sunny days and complain when it didn't rain), and for a while he told himself that he was writing the song from her perspective. He later realized that he was also writing about it himself.
