A referendum Quebec lost by 1% of the vote. 🌹The Alberta independence movement needs to pay very close attention to what happened before the 1995 Quebec referendum. I have warned everyone the Liberals have not only weaponized immigration to win elections, but now use international votes to swing close ridings they would otherwise lose. When Bill C-3 is in full force it will be next to impossible to have a credible election in Canada, under our current electoral process. It's just too easy to rig elections far beyond any non partisan oversight. Our democracy has become an illusion.

Part 2 The Canadian Government is trying to destroy Provincial rights in Canada. The longer it goes on where Mark Carney can't secure a valid trade deal with Donald Trump, the easier it will be for Quebec separatists to argue they need to go it alone. 2024: Nigel Farage is upset at the Chagos islands being handed back to Mauritius, saying it was advisory opinion and "there is no legal reason why we have to do any of this" 2015: Conservative David Lidington confirmed that the Brexit referendum would be 'advisory' After the referendum Farage said, "Not to leave the EU would be a massive betrayal of democracy" So in 2024 an advisory opinion is not legally binding, but in 2015 not delivering on an advisory referendum is a "betrayal of democracy" 🤷‍♂️

Alternately what does this mean if Khalistan separatists want all of Punjab to be their State, in India? Will he recognize that as well? What if Khalistan separatists decide a portion of Canada should be their new State, instead? Will he support them taking all of Brampton Ontario or Surrey British Columbia? Brexit was won by the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history. Here is one of them. The "Will of the People" was used to suppress democracy after the Brexit Referendum. Lord Sumption giving the Reith Lectures addressed the Brexiters' claim that Brexit is the will of the people. He said - "This is the authentic language of totalitarianism. It is the lowest point to which a political community can sink short of actual violence." This is not about percentages. It doesn't matter what percentage voted for Brexit. It is about a referendum being used to attack the fundamental democratic right to oppose, and to promote the totalitarian division of society into the people and its enemies, the subversives and saboteurs. In the period following the referendum the so-called "Will of the People" was used to create a climate of intimidation that silenced almost all political & media opponents of Brexit. During that period Britain was not functioning as a democracy, and we are still living with its effects, pro-European politicians are still cowed by the Brexit "Will of the People". In a democracy there is government and opposition, majority and minority, competing parties and dissenting voices. There is no totalitarian unity of the "Will of the People" which makes all opponents into the enemies of the people. Where the right to oppose ends, democracy dies, and that is exactly exactly why dictators like Hitler loved referendums.
