Blockbuster's biggest fumble was passing on a chance to buy Netflix for $50 million in 2000. Netflix was a fledgling DVD-by-mail service at the time, and Blockbuster's leadership dismissed its potential, sticking to their brick-and-mortar rental model. By 2010, Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy, while Netflix pivoted to streaming and became a global powerhouse. That decision cost Blockbuster a shot at dominating the digital entertainment era.

Made me sad to see those lights go out. It was exciting as a child getting to go to Blockbuster and pick out a movie or a game. Total treat.🔥🔥

Back in the 90's my parents would never spring for Blockbuster. To expensive instead we got our movies from a gas station. When I got a little older and would go to Blockbuster I felt like I had arrived.
