O-negative is the universal donor, safe for all blood types. AB-positive can receive blood from anyone, making it the universal recipient. Type O is the most common worldwide, especially O-positive. AB-negative is the rarest, found in less than 1% of people. Rh factor (positive or negative) comes from a protein on red blood cells.
