Here’s the real deal when it comes to the drone situation. In my observation , yes, there are drones that are flying around military installations. We know that to be true with: • Langley • Lakenheath • Vandenberg • Wright-Patterson • Ramstein These are just to name a few that have been recognized as actual drone incursions, at least one of which has led to an arrest (Chinese National arrested as he boarded a flight to China after caught flying drone over Vandenberg) Post ( But then New Jersey happened. While there were reports of drone sightings over two military bases in New Jersey, it’s not uncommon. A Joint Staff spokesperson commented “we have had confirmed sightings at Picatinny Arsenal and Naval Weapons Station Earle," the spokesperson said. "This is not a new issue for us. We've had to deal with drone incursions over our bases for quite a time now. It's something that we routinely respond to in each and every case when reporting is cited." - article ( But the real problem stemmed from social media and the constant misinformation people post for engagement. To get the “viral video” or post. Hysteria from unvetted posts of people claiming that commercial planes were massive drones flying in the night sky drove the mass hysteria. There were even news agencies claiming those videos shows “drones” when they were clearly manned aircraft/planes. This hysteria spread throughout social media, getting millions of impressions per post here on X alone. Imagine the other social media platforms letting these sensationalized videos go unchecked. In an interview with Wolf Blitzer, Secretary Mayorkas reveals that the Homeland Security has not only confirmed that there are no threats present in current drone hysteria in New Jersey, but that there were a lot of reports of people misidentifying planes as drones. ( To add to the hysteria, politicians were claiming adversarial countries had carriers with “drone motherships” parked off of the coast. While the technology does exist, the Biden administration stated that the claim was inaccurate, amongst other sources. Again, the tech is real via Iran & China, but the boat likely was not parked off the coast, causing drone issues in NJ ( With the breaking news this weekend of the airspace over Wright-Patterson being shutdown Friday night, the speculation is still growing. But this should show that this is a multifaceted issue that doesn’t have one resolution or culprit. We do, however, know for certain it’s not aliens or UAP. Oak Brook Illinois police launch 1st fully autonomous drone in state; some concerned over privacy rights | Mark Rivera, ABC7 Cutting-edge drone technology is now online in metro Chicago. The Oak Brook Police Department is deploying a fully autonomous drone to assess situations, and, more often than not, beat uniformed officers to the scene. The newest eye in the sky is billed as a vital tool for everyone's safety. The first responder drone made by Flock Safety is housed on the top of the department, and sits at the ready to take flight in an instant anywhere in the 8 square miles of the village. "So, the drone to get to any scene within a minute and a half, they're going to get that real in-progress real-time information, video data, license plates, offender information and relay that in real time," Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis said. He said the new technology is not seen anywhere else in Illinois. Inside the station, operators in their "new real-time crime center" can deploy the drone at their discretion, based on scanner traffic. It then flies at 200-400 feet above roads and red lights, without a human operator. Eventually, the drone will be able to deploy itself, based on specific emergency calls that come in. "It'll get there, nine times out of 10, before an officer will arrive. And it'll be the best camera angle and the best view of that situation, as it's evolving," Strockis said. Strockis said they've already seen strong results. "Just this week, the drone was deployed during a police chase ending in Lombard, helping Oak Brook police apprehend an offender. Tiny drone hits invisible mode by twisting faster than eye can detect | Omar Kardoudi, New Atlas Engineers at Northwestern University have built a drone that vanishes without camouflage or transparent panels. Its trick is spinning so fast that your eyes simply give up trying to focus, a stealth edge that could turn surveillance into something almost invisible. The aircraft, nicknamed Phantom Twist, rotates up to 25 times per second, a rate that outpaces how quickly our visual system can process sharp detail. Instead of true invisibility, the drone dissolves into a faint, ghostly blur that blends into whatever is behind it. The work, led by associate professor Michael Rubenstein, was presented on July 16 at the Robotics: Science and Systems 2026 conference in Sydney, Australia, under the title Computational Design of a Low-Visibility UAV Using Human-Aligned Perceptual Metric. "Most efforts to hide drones focus on making them look like their surroundings," says Rubenstein. "Instead, we asked whether we could design the drone itself around the way humans perceive motion. This idea of low visibility through persistent motion is something few people have explored." That distinction matters because drones are increasingly used to watch wildlife, check aging infrastructure, or survey wetlands, but their mere presence changes the behavior of whatever they're observing. Birds scatter, animals flee, people act differently. A drone that's hard to spot could do the same job without that side effect. Prior attempts at motion-based concealment offer useful context here. The Northwestern paper points to an earlier project nicknamed the Boomerang Drone, covered in a 2006 New York Times Magazine piece, which tried a similar high-speed rotation trick but couldn't spin fast enough to fully exploit the blur effect, leaving it largely visible. The paper authors also trace the broader idea of active concealment back to the "Yehudi light," a counter-illumination project developed by the National Defense Research Committee in 1944 to hide Allied sea-search aircraft from enemy view. The Phantom Twist itself takes a very different shape from those earlier attempts. Rather than a typical quadcopter with four separate rotors, it runs on a single motor and a single propeller, with the propeller spinning one way while the rest of the drone's body spins the opposite way. "For a typical quadrotor drone, the propellers are spinning, but the robot is stationary," Rubenstein explains. "So, you still see its body. For our drone, the whole thing is rotating, so there are no stationary parts." To reach that layout, the team's computer model generated roughly 20,000 possible drone configurations capable of stable flight, then used artificial intelligence and optimization algorithms to repeatedly rearrange the motor, propeller, circuit board, counterweight, and batteries. Each design was simulated spinning mid-flight and overlaid on 100 real-world backgrounds, then scored by a perceptual model built to mimic human vision, where a lower score meant better camouflage. The 500 best-scoring designs were run through the optimizer again to squeeze out further gains before a final version was built. Emma Alexander, an assistant professor of computer science and one of the study's co-authors, explains the underlying physics. "The human eye takes time to accumulate signals, roughly analogous to the exposure time of a camera," she says. "When an object spins quickly, we perceive it as blurring out and losing distinct features. Because this new drone is almost entirely transparent, its few opaque components are visually averaged with the background for an overall appearance of a slight haze." According to the paper's visibility metric, the finished drone is about 10 times harder to spot than a standard quadcopter. But the spinning trick has real limits that make this drone far from being completely unnoticeable. The propeller still makes an audible whir that gives the drone away even when the eye can't, and its support wires and rods remain partly visible. The paper's authors suggest future versions could lean on more transparent materials and quieter propulsion, edging the drone ever closer to true – and somewhat scary – invisibility. Yesterday, iVisionSR and BennoJr attempted to rob $1,262 from our tournament prizepool solely relying on the fact that no one else in the tournament spoke Dutch. Here's the breakdown of the leaderboard that we THOUGHT happened based on scores submitted 1. BennoJr, iVisionSR, (3rd not named) - 177.6 2. Bread, Lulla, Skullface - 176.15 That was until 3 separate viewers came forward with translations from Vision & Benno's stream (since been unpublished, however I have the clips), indicating they had purposefully miscalculated their score in order to beat us by a little over a point. Here's how the leaderboard looks without their false reporting 1. Bread, Lulla, Skullface - 176.15 2. BennoJr, iVisionSR, (3rd not named) - 175.4 Translated from their Vod (clip below) iVision: "Um Benno, You have to add an extra point to our score yes?" Benno: "Yes that's ok." iVision: "or just add 10 or something" Benno: "Yes I will" iVision: "Then you can say, the 0 was added by accident" Benno: "Or we should add a placement, I'm going to add extra placement" On top of purposefully reporting their scores incorrectly to take 1st over 2nd, they also attempted to have points taken away from us for an infraction that occurred in the first game (accidental portable Radar throw from Lulla). The Admin reviewed and decided that unless there was any kills or info taken from this, it was an accident and shouldn't be punished as all three of us died right after. I have absolutely no gripe with people trying to debate rules and the integrity of the tournament, that's completely fine. The Admin will always determine the outcome of those scenarios, that's what they exist for. What I have an issue with, and can't comprehend myself, is that not only would they attempt to take points away from us for an infraction that changed nothing (petty is what I would call it at the bare minimum) but go out of their way to lie about their scores in such a blatant way, thinking no one would fact check them when $2,000 is on the line. The balls it takes to be lying while attempting to "bring justice" is insane. People break rules in tournaments all the time, knowingly or unknowingly. I died to a Katt AMR yesterday when they were banned, die to portable radars all of the time while they're banned, and still do not lie about my scores with money involved. Yesterday, iVisionSR and BennoJr attempted to rob $1,262 from our tournament prizepool solely relying on the fact that no one else in the tournament spoke Dutch. Here's the breakdown of the leaderboard that we THOUGHT happened based on scores submitted 1. BennoJr, iVisionSR, (3rd not named) - 177.6 2. Bread, Lulla, Skullface - 176.15 That was until 3 separate viewers came forward with translations from Vision & Benno's stream (since been unpublished, however I have the clips), indicating they had purposefully miscalculated their score in order to beat us by a little over a point. Here's how the leaderboard looks without their false reporting 1. Bread, Lulla, Skullface - 176.15 2. BennoJr, iVisionSR, (3rd not named) - 175.4 Translated from their Vod (clip below) iVision: "Um Benno, You have to add an extra point to our score yes?" Benno: "Yes that's ok." iVision: "or just add 10 or something" Benno: "Yes I will" iVision: "Then you can say, the 0 was added by accident" Benno: "Or we should add a placement, I'm going to add extra placement" On top of purposefully reporting their scores incorrectly to take 1st over 2nd, they also attempted to have points taken away from us for an infraction that occurred in the first game (accidental portable Radar throw from Lulla). The Admin reviewed and decided that unless there was any kills or info taken from this, it was an accident and shouldn't be punished as all three of us died right after. I have absolutely no gripe with people trying to debate rules and the integrity of the tournament, that's completely fine. The Admin will always determine the outcome of those scenarios, that's what they exist for. What I have an issue with, and can't comprehend myself, is that not only would they attempt to take points away from us for an infraction that changed nothing (petty is what I would call it at the bare minimum) but go out of their way to lie about their scores in such a blatant way, thinking no one would fact check them when $2,000 is on the line. The balls it takes to be lying while attempting to "bring justice" is insane. I died to a Katt AMR yesterday when they were banned, die to portable radars all of the time while they're banned, and still do not lie about my scores with money involved. On my way into Donetsk region, I drive through Izium. The city is now covered with anti-drone nets. When I travelled through Izium just seven weeks ago, none of this was here. These nets now run for more than 100 km along the road toward Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. They can stop FPV drones, but Russia has begun using larger, heavier drones that aren’t affected by the nets. Even with these defenses, 2–3 vehicles a week are still being hit by drone strikes. Donbas remains the region Russia wants most, and discussions about ceding territory focus heavily on it. If we lose this region, the rest of Ukraine will face greater pressure from the surplus Russian forces. (Especially with the latest Napalm Burst fix) Not to mention Ammo Mods: - Dead Wire will stun enemies and take Zombies down to only 40% of their health, and it'll pop off their armor. - Napalm Burst will obviously destroy hordes - Cryo Freeze will give a 50% increase in damage - Brian Rot will kill zombies for you Or all the kill streaks, field upgrades, and equipment that you could use to gain more points. If someone is "constantly going down" during this phase of the game, it is nothing but a skill issue. It isn't "flawed" or "poorly balanced," it's on the player to not get hit 9-22 times within a 6-second time span. Just like how in Mario you need to be good at platforming and jumping. No one would claim that the death pits in Mario are "flawed" or are "poorly designed" just because not everyone can play the game properly. If you find yourself constantly going down, spending points on things that don't increase your survival, or making bad decisions, that is 100% on you, not the game. 🚁 My war drone simulator Apocalypse Drone now has support for 32 players! I also made it Conquest/CTF so you have multiple bases that you have to capture, each round the map is procedurally generated and random so every time it's different (like Battlefield) There's still some bugs to work out and most importantly I have to figure out soldier animations, because they're fixed models now But I have got really far this time I think and coding with AI is really way further than it was a year ago, you mostly notice that how few times you get stuck, only one time this month building this I got stuck which was today where I moved the AI players to the server and they kept showing up as invisible, very buggy, every time I told it that it couldn't fix it though Then I asked it to fundamentally analyze the current server-side AI player code and make it work like industry standard, and it took a long time and fixed everything Last year I'd get stuck hundreds of times and the AI just couldn't get itself out of a hole, but now it can I think it's impressive that just last year only for the first time we could make actual games with AI But this year as non-game dev, I can get pretty close to the level of a multiplayer game from 20y ago (like Battlefield 1942, that lots of ideas here are based on, but with drones :D) Obviously we're still far away from AAA (I hate that term though) but the curve of exponential progress is there again, as it was in AI image generation, then video, and now code, first bad, then better, then good enough! Today, Ukrainian city of Kherson is being hit daily by hundreds of Russian drones. A year ago, the region was attacked by about 700 drones per month; now, that number has risen to 2,700 in a week. In August alone, Russians carried out almost 10,000 drone strikes across Kherson region. The Dnipro district of Kherson lies in the "red zone", closest to the front line. In the Korabel neighborhood, not a single apartment block remains undamaged by strikes.
