It’s not his genre. Of course he is uncomfortable, like expecting Metallica to sing “old McDonald had a farm”

That’s what happens when a mediocre singer at best is surrounded by great singers.

Bob Dylan was one of the many artists who joined the USA for Africa project in 1985, which aimed to raise funds and awareness for the famine crisis in Ethiopia. The song “We Are the World” was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and produced by Quincy Jones12. However, some sources claim that Bob Dylan felt uncomfortable while recording the song, as he was not used to singing in a pop style or with such a large ensemble. He reportedly had trouble finding his place in the chorus, and had to be coached by Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder34. Some fans also noticed that he was barely visible in the video, as he was obscured by other singers or objects34. Bob Dylan himself has not commented much on his experience with “We Are the World”, but he did perform the song live once, at the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia on July 13, 19851. He was joined by Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, and they gave a rather rough and improvised rendition of the song. Some critics praised Dylan’s performance as a refreshing contrast to the polished studio version, while others found it disrespectful or out of tune.

Probably because he’s thinking about how much this song sucks. It’s hard for a good songwriter to be featured in a horrible song like that.

It's because he's singing a song written by Michael Jackson who was born a black man and died a white woman.

Because in that mind of his, that song is the goofiest song he’s ever sung.
